We will be heading to Bonaire on April 14th. We want to know where there is a liquor store on the island and how the selection is.

We are a couple of picky couples and looking for white zinfandel wine, single malt scotch, coconut rum, and regular rum. Specific brands are not real important, just want to know if we can get these items.

Thanks for the help!

The Bonaire Gift Shop has a great selection of wines and liquor. Also Deepak is very knowledgable about said items, and quite an interesting fellow to chat with.

Have fun !!

There is also the Bonaire Liquor Store (Kaya Grandi, other side of the road from Papaya Moon) and the Antillean Wine Company (on the left side just before Warehouse) and than there is TIS (same side of the road just a little further from Warehouse)

Jeanette, I saw single malt in the airport store in Miami. If it is really that important I suggest buying this before Bonaire. The rest of your list is very readily available.

There is also a liquor store on the road that runs east from the traffic circle near Sand Dollar. It is down on the left and looks like a storage building. I bought a couple cases of full size Heineken cans there. Great selection!!

Thanks for all the information. We usually buy our liquor in Montego Bay on the way down, but this year we are flying Continental from Newark.

Counting the days 'til we're back in Paradise!

Jeanette,

Warehouse Grocery has wine and liquor. A few weeks ago I bought a bottle of South African red for 9.99 NAFL (about 5.87 US) and a bottle of rum from Curacao for 14.99 NAFL (about 8.80 US). They had a fair selection and I do seem to remember seeing a White Zin and some coconut rum, but I'm sure the selection changes from time to time. Check it out if you happen to be at Warehouse for groceries.

We mixed the rum with Lover's tropical punch (also purchased at Warehouse, it's sold by the quart carton in the refrigerated section) and some ice and it made pretty good rum punch in a pinch :-)

I am certain that you can buy single malt scotch at NWR duty free shops; but, considering the time that you will be there, they may be closed. If that is the case, I recommend buying a bottle or two at your favorite store at home and wrapping them in your wet suits. Put through check in luggage. I have only done this with hard sided luggage and have never had a problem. Additionally seal bottles in a few plastic bags, in the event that a breakage does occur.

You can also check out Wing Cheung Supermarket, they have a pretty nice assortment of wines and liquors. The prices are pretty good too.

Philip, it is in town on the main street, Kaya Grande. The Antillean Wine Company also has a good selection of wine:-)

I am not snobby, but about wine I am. If you buy wine from either Cultimara, Warehouse, Jokes, or any other place that is not air conditioned, you really run the risk of having a bad bottle of vino. Sometimes temps in those stores go way high, and it just kills the bottle. Marjolein and Noel know what they are doing at Antillean, and they store it properly. Never had a bad bottle buying from them. As far as single malt, I know this guy Michael who has an 18 year old Glenfiddich. LOL
