As I sit looking at the thermometer reading -4 degrees, I realize it is time to reach back to my memory of the warm days in Bonaire. We returned just a month ago, but it now seems like an eternity. We first came to Bonaire in 1989 and the dining scene has definitely changed since then. With only one week, we
had to make some tough decisions as to which restaurants to visit. Since we have been using the Continental flight, our first night is a Saturday. Tired but happy, Bobbejan's makes a great stop for that night. You can't beat the price and the food has been consistent through the years.

After a great day of diving, we aren't always looking for a ton of food, just a nice variety. LaGuernica's is great for us. We love choosing several items off the tapas section and tasting a little bit of everything. While some people don't like the closeness to the road, we love watching everyone go by.

For our third night, we decided to venture into new territory and tried Patagonia's. Love the location and service. Tons of food for the price. However, we ordered the rib eye and what was served was not a rib eye. I know Argentinian beef is different, but I don't think they are growing Dr. Seuss animals and this
cut of meat was located somewhere else on the cow. It was cooked to perfection, tasted fine, for sirloin, and was huge. Would have preferred a much smaller piece and for that piece to actually be a rib eye.

Our next day of diving gave us a chance meeting with the owners of Cactus Blue. They were going site to site to promote their restaurant. Great people trying hard to establish their name on everyone's list. We decided to give it a try. Good decision! It was one of our best meals on any island. We had red snapper, pork tenderloin, and tuna. All fantastic, but the appetizer of crabmeat balls is the one truly
making my mouth water right now.

Our fourth day contained a night dive, so we opted for a fabulous lunch at Bistro de Paris. Excellent food. Glad to see they were quite busy.

Fifth day we headed for another new destination for us, Papaya Moon, a well run family venture. The food and service were very good.

For lunch on our last island day, we headed to Casablanca. We were not disappointed.
Our final dining pleasure we were reserve for Capriccio's. We love the whole Italian dining experience. One could just eat the bread and enjoy a fantastic bottle of wine. It is hard to find such a great wine list anywhere.

Any time we venture out into the Caribbean, we leave our hurried schedules at home and bring along the pleasure of knowing we don't have to be somewhere in 5 minutes. Yes, dining here is not like dining at home. Thank goodness! If you are new to island dining a couple words of advice, when your server is at your table and you know that eventually you will be wanting another drink, order it. Also, don't wait for your server to bring your check, ask for it. They do not want to rush you but without asking, there is a chance you could see the sun rise while waiting. The world is waiting your return, but for now, relax, sit back and enjoy.
