We ate out a fair amount, and also ate in the room (sometimes we were just too tired to think about going out). Our favorite spots were Richards (great Mango daiquiris and the pier table was very pleasant) Cactus Blue (great menu, good prices and fun cactus lemonade) and Pasa Bon Pizza (amazingly good pizza). We went back to all 3 of these spots we enjoyed them so much.

We also ate at at Den Lehman and Lion's Den and enjoyed them. Our first dinner was at Casablancas for the mixed grill. The leftovers were our lunch for the next several days. A great value! For lunch our favorite food was at Bella Vista (Buddy Dive).

We went to Mona Lisa's but left once we looked at the menu. It was a tad expensive for our taste, and the special included foie gras (Foie gras is the fattened liver of a duck or goose that has been overfed through a process of force feeding. Sorry. This just seems a tad too cruel for our tastes--we don't eat lamb or veal either so its just us but we don't support restaurants that don't seem to share our values).

We looked for It Rains Fishes, but did not locate it the night we went looking. Bad directions I guess. We had planned to try El Fogon but ran out of time (and kept going back to Cactus Blue, Pasa Bon and Richards...).

Guess we just need to get back to Bonaire so we can continue to try all the various choices!

I think you would be surprised at the amount of cruelity that goes into beef, chicken and pork too... After doing some research on that subject I became a vegetarian for about 10 years. I have since switched back over to eating meat and my motto now is to not think too much about it because when I do I get grossed out! Ignorance is bliss I guess.

As in Europe, there must be certified organic meat available in the US - not on Bonaire though. The animals used for this are treated right, get organic feed, and are not treated with hormones etc. It costs a bit more, but it is prime quality meat and gets you the piece of mind of having done the right thing.
