Tee-shirt, sandals, shorts is the uniform of the day on Bonaire. Enjoy! Ron

One consideration is lightweight long pants for dining outside when the mosquitoes are biting (most of the time)They do seem to love hanging out under the tables in wind blocked areas. The trick to packing is bring more swimsuits than you think you need and less of everything else! Have a great time.

Hi Ron,
I second the light cotton long pants and may I add light socks to wear with your sandals to keep the critters from biting your ankles.

I also have to add that at some of the "nicer" restaurants, they do appreciate nicer shorts, shirts, etc., nothing fancy but a step up from the t-shirt and very casual shorts dress ;-)

I would die in long pants, so I take bug spray with me and give the legs and ankles a spray before we go inside the restaurant, and sometimes I'll re-apply half way through the meal:-)

This has all been said somewhere before, but I have to add that if you look around at what local people are wearing downtown and to restaurants, with little exception, it's generally a notch above what we have on: nicer long pants, skirts to knees, ect.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I put on a skirt to go downtown, or to dinner (I'd DIE in long pants, too.). I think locals know we're tourists and are willing to give us some leeway about dress, but I tend to want to do what the locals do when i'm in their country. I'm probably overboard on this; it's just my way of travelling. Hmm, I think I just said what Cynde said, but in a longer winded way...

Barbara, you are right on:-) I wear a skirt, but it's above the knee. I even worke HEELS this last time (ok, 1 inch heels, but they were heels)...lol...

I tend to think of what I would wear at home. If it's a nice place, Wil's Tropical Grill, Cappricios, Casablanca, etc., I would not wear shorts and a t-shirt, I go up a knotch. The proprietors of the establishments appreciate it as well:-)

I feel that it is a form of respect for the establishment and other diners in a nice restaurant to "Make an effort".

I have eaten in most of the upmarket restaurants and am constantly surprised that some people look as though they have just walked off the beach.

I understand that people don't want to dress up for lunch or to drink at the bar. However, having dinner in pleasant surroundings is another thing.

I also don't get the baseball cap thing. I assumed that a hat was to keep the rain off, the sun off or to keep your head warm. I don't see the point of sitting inside a restaurant wearing a grubby hat!

Anthony, the hat thing. Some folks have gotten too relaxed. There are a few restaurants locally that request you take your ball cap off while dining:-)

Uh-oh, true confession:
I wore my baseball cap turned backwards at a restaurant because the back of my head was towards the wind and the wispy bits of hair tickling my face was too much. Next time I know better and I will face the wind so that the wispy stuff is blown away from my face.

CB, I'm thinking "Queen Hats"...heh heh...my only problem with taking the ball cap off is that I have HORRIBLE hat hair. Please channel your grandpa and I'll channel my grandma and let's see what they come up with:-)

ron,
You can wear the speedo, just cover it up with pants. And, whatever you do, when dressing for dinner do NOT wear the speedo on the outside of your long pants.

As I don't like skirts and long pants are hot I opt for a compromise, I wear culottes, capri pants or gaucho pants with a nice shirt/blouse. Dave wears nicer shorts and a shirt with a collar. We both wear sandals. Neither one of us is bothered much by the local bugs. I agree about the hats, hate to see men with hats on at the table.

Cam, I once shared a breakfast table with a Canadian family, the dad of which had on a hat that said "Goofy Boy Productions". He said his wife had had it made for him to wear when he and his buddies came to the US on ski trips...said she made him leave the country if he was going to act that silly. Man, I wanted that hat!
