My wife and I are going to bonaire in January and are very excited about the diving. We just got back from diving in Barbados. They had a fresh fish market that you could get a variety of fresh catches. It was great to Eat the local catch of the day. Anything similar on Bonaire?? Can you buy the local catch of the day? I know there is no fishing (spearfishing on the reef), but can you still buy fresh fish??

Hi Jason,

There are a few places I go for fish:

Doei Diaz next to Richards on Abraham Blvd. Later in the day is best. Juni is a fisherman behind Progresso off of Kaya Korona. That one is tricky as I do not know street names. Another one is heading towards Sorobon on Nikkiboko Zuid right before Sonrisa Ballfield on the right is a brown house that has a sign aki ta bende pisca. I often buy fish here. It's about 13,00 a kilo now days. If you are lucky and see a hand fisherman come in off Playa Lechi he may sell you something. To watch the boats come in, head to Lac Bay's marina mid day. What fun.

Juni has great fish.

Alan Zale sent me the directions a few years ago(they're on his Bonaire hints sheets). I can't seem to find them (probably on work computer), but if Alan sees this, maybe he can post this, or if someone else has it they can post them.

from Alan Zale's notes of 7 Feb 06:

"Make a right out of the Sand Dollar parking lot.
Go around the circle and take the third right turn.
Go to the end of the road and make a right.
Make your next right at the blue and white arrow.
Go about a ½ mile and make a right onto Kaya Holdu (yellow building on corner says Toko Carmen).
At end of road make a left and a quick right.
Then next left onto Kaya Cuto.
Go to white house with green and white posts out front, #4.
Best time is late afternoon. Ask for Juney and he will tell you what he caught today!"

You can also tell it's the house by the large walk-in cooler in the backyard.

We got a big tuna from Juni last week. It had been out of the water for an hour at most. Great grilled.
