Prolly not spelled correctly, but we used to get this at Old Inn--which has gone German---does anyone know if Rjistafel (a melange of indonesian --I think--dishes) is available anywhere else on the island? We sure missed this when we came in March, and we are visiting again July 19th. Here's hoping someone will know...

Well, at least that gives us a place to look. Thanks so much. We will try China Nobo to start. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to suggestions. We leave next Wed the 19th. We have not been to any Chinese places on the island yet, tho we have been to many other restaurants. Our new fave is La Guernica.

We were also disappointed that the rijsttafel restaurant was gone-we had never tried this one and then it was gone. There is a wonderful one in Curacao. They are indonesian in origin but the Dutch are famous for their restaurants...lots of little sampler dishes with rice (sort of like a huge private tapas bar I guess you could say) - usually 2 people will order 20 'dishes'- all sorts of things come, vegetables, meats,- oh, they are wonderful!!

All the chineese offer ristaffel, however it is a far cry from the real thing that they have in Cuacao. Try the Surinam Bar at the end of Kaya Emerenciana. The do a fair job.

Well, as promised, I am reporting back after our July trip, in particular on the Rijsttafel. We went repeatedly to the Surinam Bar but it was closed each time we went--bars on the windows and doors. Looked permanently closed or open at times too late for our family. So we decided to see about China Nobo since we passed it each time we went to Surinam Bar. They were very helpful and tried to be accommodating. They even had Rujsttafel on the menu--but it was not the same. Very good food but did not seem to be Indonesian--just good Chinese food. Anyway, after we returned home, I found one of those restaurant fliers, an old one from previous years, and lo and behold, it had all the names of the dishes that Old Inn used to serve as Rijsttafel. So now at least I have something to ASK for--I did not recognize the names of any of the dishes that China Nobo served us, nor at the time did I know what to ask for. I am just about to give this up, but at least I have my list and maybe we can find Surinam Bar open when we go next April. I wonder where the chef went that used to work at Old Inn, or was the previous owner the cook?
