Hello everyone,

Just returned from Bonaire, what an amazing island. A real paradise. Everybody is polite and helpful….. just one lite thing. We had dinner at La Guernica at the boulevard. This was a big mistake. We took the tappas….. witch isn’t to hard to make (you think) every thing was from the fryer even the scrimps with garlic. Maybe not to bad if they hadn’t left it in there for about an hour. When I tried to ask some one if it was supposed to be like this. The waitress got very angry so I tried to calm her down. This didn’t work so I asked for the manager/owner…. She wasn’t any better she started yelling like a farm girl. The we decided to leaf and just pay the bill… wish to god we didn’t my mother had to stay in bed for to days because her stomach was upset from the food. It really was a terrible experience… any how the rest of Bonaire is like paradise…

That's sad, I hope your mother is feeling well again, it's terrible when you spend your vacation ill! We ate at La Guernica a few weeks back and tapa's and everything was good and fresh, maybe we ordered different things, or they were having a bad day. Still it doesn't make you feel any better. Glad to hear you enjoyed the rest of Bonaire!

Jack hope Mom is better. La Guernica is not for everyone. I have eaten there many times, not bad, but not outstanding. I loved my meal, others with us did not, we had the same dinner. They must have a bad night.

I'm so sorry your mother was ill and you had such a bad experience. But what is "yelling like a farm girl?"

Signed,

Kelly in Ohio

Jack, I'm sorry you had a bad meal and your mother got sick. Did you let them know that your mother became sick from the meal?

I'm a little surprised that the staff reacted in such a way...odd. I believe the owners/managers read BT, maybe they will let us know the situation.

Glad you enjoyed Bonaire. Please write a trip report and post it in the Trip Report section:-)

Perhaps yelling like a farm girl relates to when you call in the livestock and chickens and such you really have to let 'er rip.

Jack, I am sorry that you had a bad experience at La Guernica. I hope your mother is better. We had dinner there twice in March and it was two of our favorite meals of the trip. Food, service, everything was great. I guess you hit them on an off night, or we hit them on on nights.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at La Guernica, Jack, even more sorry for your mother! We ate there in March, and had a terrific meal! Fred had tapas too, we eat them often, all over the world, and he thought they where very nice there. My whole meal there was fantastic (see our trip report)I do hope it was a one time error, since we do plan to go there again next time in paradise!

Maybe he translatet "yelling like a farmgirl" from dutch to englisch.(schreeuwen als een boerenmeid)
In holland we say it wen a girl is very rough in her language en shouts and swears.
Maybe like a cowgirl?? ;)
Don't know if you have an expression for that.:P

Swearing like a sailor. I don't know of any female specific simile in English.
