I'd read somewhere that it's in a discussion of some kind with Bongo's, but other than that, not much else. Does anyone know A) What it's called, B) When will it be open, Or C) Is it already open?

Danki pa e informashon,

Laura :-)

Well, looks like everyone's as clueless about it as I am! *laugh*

If you check out the webcam, however, you can see they've cleared away the construction fence today.

Hi Laura, I've just checked with my travel agent today and the restaurant (lounge) is owned and run by Bongo's! Don't know the name, but we will be visiting the lounge in about 3 weeks; I'll let you know.
Ayo, Maggie.

Maggie, are you sure about Bongo's owning the restaurant and lounge? Last I read through the Bonaire Reporter, Eden Beach owns the new restaurant and lounge and was in a dispute with Henk at Bongo's. The jist of it was they want Bongo's to go away (I'm sure 2 restaurants that close is a bit competitive) and were charging Bongo's $200.00 a day. I'll look up the BR archive and post the story.

Maybe someone who lives on the island can shed light on it as well.

Frankly, I love Bongo's. I love putting my dive gear down, sinking my toes in the sand, having a toastie or burger and a tall glass of iced tea (no brights till done diving ;-) I doubt we could shlep our dive gear into the new place:-(

Found it:

It says that Bongo's is in a contract dispute with Eden Beach. According to reports, Bongo's has a 20 year contract with Eden Beach, renewable every 5 years. Eden Beach says it can't accept the terms of the renewal and has increased the rent. Then they want Bongo's to pay an additional 200 bucks a day penalty as long as it continues to operate....Eden Beach built a 2 story structure next to Bongo's to use as a restaurant. The dispute was to go to court April 26. I haven't read anything else in the reporter, wonder how/if it was resolved.

Grasshopper, I hope it is Bongo's. We have always had a great time with Henk and his staff; the dispute has been going on for more than a year now. Please post the former info. I will of course see it soon by myself and let you know. Let's hope Henk stays!! We also stay at Eden Beach, so we're close to the latest news in a few weeks time.

Maggie, let us know what you find out please.

Meanwhile, maybe someone on island knows the skinny.

Henk has won the dispute and is still operating as before. I am glad for Henk (and myself, because I love that spot!!) and I hope that he can stay there for a long time !!!!
Although it looks pretty nice the new restaurant and almost finished it is not yet open, has no name yet and does not look like it will be opening soon either. Henk's smile is getting bigger and bigger I assume .....:-))
