Gonna be there on the 6th. Any chance someone can start up the brewery on Curacao before we get there? We've tried the "other" Amstel and it is no where near as good. Man, a day without a case of Amstels from Jokes is like a day without scuba diving. Why did they close? I would have made donations!

Amstel Bright is still on sale, but it is now brewed in Amsterdam. I thought it was not as crisp as the original but it was still good

OH NO!! I always load up my luggage with as many as I can bring back. My friends love the seawater beer. I got my luggage searched in Baltimore on the way home one year. I had bottles tucked in my fins, socks, BC, and anywhere else that I thought wouldn't break. The only thing the customs agent said was, "That stuff must be good." Oh it was.

And we hear from another extremely disappointed seawater Amstel fan... if we can get enough of us to chip in, maybe we can open the brewery ourselves. :-) Worked for Klein.
Bill Gates and Paul Allen have both been on the island, someone should have petitioned them. All it takes if a few free samples, maybe a couple of shots afterwards, a free t-shirt (you know how cheap they are.)
I can't figure it out. With all of the drunks on Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire, how could they possibly go belly up? Gees, Ascension Thursday on Bonaire is enough to keep the brewery in the black for the entire year!

Ahh I remember it well... it was our second day on the Bonaire in 1989. We knew nothing about the island. Didn't even know where the Cultimara was. We found a small local bar just outside of Kralendijk. The locals were all sitting around playing something that looked like dominoes. I asked one of them if we could get a six pack of Amstels to take with us to the park. He said yes, mumbled something in Papiamentu and everyone laughed. I smiled as I watched him take six ice cold Amstels out of the fridge and put them in an old fruit box. He handed them to me, I handed him 20 USD and he handed me 10 Guilders. I thought that was fair... problem was the park requires a lot more than a six pack of 8 ouncers, especially since we had no AC and took the "long" road.

Hummm, no responses. I guess that's why the brewery closed. Not enough seawater Amstel cultists.
Come to think of it, I fibbed in the post above. Regarding the second day on Bonaire and not knowing where anything was is not actually true. My wife's built in jewelry radar located Mr. Littman's place even before the plane landed. When she gets close her left eyelid twitches and little sparkly lights begin to appear around her head. He doesn't sell Amstel though...

Keith,

Many of us who live here miss the seawater Bright (there is a difference)--but we've been forced to adjust. Any Bright on Bonaire is better than any other beer any other place. I'm all for the idea of petitioning Paul Allen and Bill Gates, but it might come better from someone else--I'm a Mac person...
