i asked if anyone had Miller Light beer on a post, and Corrine from C. Blue replied, Yes! We went last night and it was wonderful! Beth had a lobster and I a very cool and different burger. And we discovered they are neighbors of us in Santa Barbara. Folks, it's good but it's not cheap, and it shouldn't be.

i noticed cactus blue when i was in Bonaire 2 weeks ago (last trip the argentinian grill was in process of moving)

i didn't eat there and I believe the main reason was that the sign was green... not a very appetizing color.

from a advertising/pschology perspective, they should change their sign.

i'll be back to bonaire in summer, and i will check the restaurant out, since greg says it's good.

Well Jenny.
I have heard a lot of reasons for not eating at a restaurant. The sign being the wrong colour has to be the best yet.
I am sure that there is some logic behind that.

at the time it was not a conscious decision. after we got back, my husband and I were talking about out trip... he bets that cactus blue is out of business by the time we visit again. i don't think so, but I wondered why we didn't check it out... two reasons, really:

no one else was there
the sign didn't make you think of food at all(it was blue & green)

when faced with lots of choices and no knowledge, tourists will undoubtedly be draw in (or deterred)by these simple advertising details. maybe the owners will read this and change their sign.

furthermore, cactus isn't very appetizing either. (although i know some local dishes include it) it conjures thought of dryness and pain.

when i go back i hope they are still there and i can come on here and write an excellent review.

hmmm.. just went back and read the other cactus blue thread... there was a pic and the sign WAS NOT GREEN. it must be the building itself.

my bad.

still seemed unappetizing tho.

I have been less than diligent in doing our trip report after two great weeks (again) our 5th on Bonaire. March 4 - March 19 @ Sanddollar unit F-10 (have I established enough credibility yet ?).
I feel the need to chime in on the Cactus Blue discussion. We were there twice in two weeks . Once for nachos & blender drinks and once for dinner. The blender drinks are BIG & Yummy. Suz had mango margarita's and I had a a house specialty that came in a wine 1/2 carafe. Both delicious and the nachos were very well done with lots of glop on them. The service was very good, prompt polite and the young lady from the island who took care of us had a smile that lit up the room when she broke it out.
The other visit was for a slightly soberer dinner. I had the seared tuna which was outstanding ( I can't remember what Suz had) again everything was delicious and I was full , not an easy task w/ me !!
We commented to each other while we were there that Cactus Blue was a welcome addition to the Bonaire dining scene but that no one was going. We were all alone on one visit and maybe two other couples on the other. Unfortunately for them they are right next door to Casablanca which does a huge business. In our opinion they are worthy of promotion in the annals of Bonaire talk Epicurean
recommendations.
Oh and not to pick at a scab or anything but the woman owner could not have been nicer or more professional.
Jack

Jack, again, thanks for the update. I plan to try it on my next visit. It's tough opening a new restaurant. I worked in the industry many moons ago, but it does take some time to get the "kinks" worked out sometimes. It sounds like they have worked them out:-) Oh, and a half a crafe of wine with dinner? I'm there ;-)

Hopefully more folks will give it a try and post their reports:-)

Was just on Bonaire for last two weeks and had 2 great dinners at Cactus Blue.Corinne and Hagen are both great. We had the shrimp in garlic sauce for appetizer and the red snapper [catch of the day] and a salad ,all very good. The second time around tried a quesadia appetizer and a shrimp dinner, also very good. Try the place you will like it.
