Hello,

how much does the fruit normally cost on Bonaire and where is it better to buy grapes, oranges, apples, bananas, etc.?

Thanks

Natalya,

Produce in general is fairly expensive on Bonaire. Of the supermarkets on the island we've found Cultimara to usually have the best selection, though we prefer the Warehouse for our other groceries. There is a fruit vendor by the waterfront some days, don't remember which. On vacation I tend not to pay as much attention to prices but have definitely said "ouch" a few times!

David

The Venezulan fruit vendor by the waterfront is a great place to buy fruit, you can bargain a price for your fruit too! A neighbor of mine there was with me and we wanted some bananas, so we go there and I was just gonna pay him his price and he said "No, How about this $ amount?" and we got it! Never knew we could do that. I also got a beautiful vase for my house there about a year ago! Bonaire Warehouse has good fruit and fairly priced, Cultimara is a hit or miss. Some folks have said More for Less, but I usually draw the line on going to three stores for my groceries, so I can't really comment on that one.

More for Less has great berries from Quito, also some organic produce.

The Fruiteria in Tera Cora has decent produce at times and La Portugesa on the Sorobon road. Otherwise as above..it's always hit or miss. Sometimes the fruit is excellent, sometimes sour or bad at all places..ya never know. Cultimara had great Gala apples to serve with brie..yummy...

The fruit vendor on the waterfront is no more. He and 15 other Venezualans were arrested last week. Their boats were also confiscated. They were caught with 2 boat loads of stolen electronic equipment. It seem that they acted as a fence for stolen goods and transported them back to Ven. I don't know if they will be allowed to reopen but the rumor mill said that they are finished on the Island. Good riddance to thieves!

I read the same item in the Bonaire Reporter.
However, fruit vendors are still selling produce in the same market. It has not closed.

If they are still there, where "one the waterfront" are the fruit vendors? In town?

Yes. Near Town Pier and Government House, Customs, and other government buildings.
