Does anyone know anything about this establishment? I think this is the name of it. We noticed it a few weeks ago coming back from the Blue Moon

Thanks.

Josh, do you mean La Flamboyant? It's in town on the main road? If so, they have fabulous food.

Had lunch from there yesterday - they make a great creamy spinach soup with garlic croutons. Second time this week I've had it.

I've also recently posted a review at:

Nice review Jake:-) I forget, the gentleman we spent some time talking to last time, is he the owner or the manager, do you know? Very nice man, and service is also very good there. Last time I had the blue cheese filet mignon (not light...lol)

I bring the bug spray towlettes from Avon (skin so soft) and wipe my legs down when I'm dining outside at night. Also, the ambiance outside at La Flambouyant is wonderful. They do have an amazing garlic butter they serve, so watch those garlic butter hogs in your group (right Martini?)

Hmm, let me put it like this... It looked like there was enough bread and butter, and I still don't know where she did put it... :-)

Jerry, yes, the owner is French:-) I couldn't remember if someone said he was the owner or manager. And you are right, very nice people, and the staff and service is very good. They are prompt, and bring whatever you ask for (like extra bread and garlic butter)...lol.

I had the cucumber and yogurt soup one time, don't remember if it was on the menu this last time, but it was delish ;-)

Last year we must have eaten there 10-15 times.
Just love it!

It would be nice to see a Save the O ring sign hanging.

Jim, that was one of the few non beef items I ate last summer! The penne with chicken and mushrooms... mmmmm... had a lovely dinner there with Ann P. and Maggie... I actually saw a fisherman bring in the catch of the day, blood dripping on the floor and everything, it was very cool. We sat outside in the courtyard, it was delightful. The mosquitos were awful though!

Holy smoke, were you not feeling well? Mayonnaise, you must have used a lot of mayonnaise - right?

Any restaurants that specialize in great salads and fresh vegetables? Are fresh fruits and vegetables available in the markets? What about grains that have to be cooked? Should I bring bags of grains and nuts, just be assured of health items?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Tish (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #569) on Thursday, December 22, 2005 - 6:43 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

There are two other threads on the topic of vegetarian meals. Check those out.
You should try Garden Cafe, just north of town.
What is available in the markets is unpredictable. Usually you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, and More for Less carries organic varieties. Most of the stores have the best selection if you shop Thursday afternoon or Friday. Sometimes produce mysteriously disappears briefly.
Brown rice sometimes is NOT available, and you are not likely to run into the other types of healthy grains we expect to find in the US, so bring such things with you.
Most nuts on the island are salted, but now and then I find unsalted, especially in large bags in the wholesale half of Warehouse.
The best rule for anybody headed for Bonaire is to bring with you any food which you absolutely must have while you are here, just in case that product is not available during your stay. But if you are willing to visit many shops, you will be able to find most things EXCEPT health food store items.
Sounds like we share a taste for healthy foods!

We did have lunch there and were supposed to have New Year's Eve dinner there as well. A party/dinner came up at Sand Dollar, long story, so we went there instead. We had to cancel. Next time, I would absolutely go back there as lunch was tremendous.

Jake, as far as the Pot Luck, I was waving to you guys in Belnem as my plane for Curacao took off. This is one of those years where we have to be back in school on January 2nd. Hence, leaving Bonaire on January 1st is a bummer for sure.

There was a woman named Ruth, I think, staying at the Dive Inn. She was going. I asked her to give you and Linda my best. I hope she did. Next year, New Year's Day will be on a Monday. Again, we shall be back in school on a Tuesday. However, the following year, I don't care what day it falls on, as I shall be in the ranks of the retired. After I put Kathi on the plane to come home, as she still has about 6 years, I'll be over. LOL

Jim,

Ruth did indeed make it and pass on your greetings. Sorry to have missed you this year!

Jake
