Sounds like Raja's Garden Cafe with the large neon "Pizza and Grill" sign. Definitely a favorite of ours. Good pizza, lebanese/meditteranean food and more at good prices, and Raja is Bonaire's resident Santa Claus look-alike. Highly recommended.

Evidently you have not eaten Uno's Pizza in Chicago. There is no possible debate, Uno's is THE MOST FABULOUS PIZZA IN THE WORLD.

Pasa Bon is very good pizza.

Dean...I grew up in Chicago and have eaten at Unos (and Duos). Unos sausage pizza is good, but Pasa Bon makes a homemade spicy sausage that is to die for...plus, no fish pizza at Unos! Lou Malnatis makes a good pizza too.

This has all the makings of a great pizza debate. As a former resident of the metro-NYC area, I feel that it's my duty to respond. New York City IS the pizza capital of the world. There's more world class pizza in any four square block area of NYC than any place in the world.

Now there's nothing wrong with the food called "pizza" in other parts of the US and the world, but from my humble perspective none of them hold a candle to good NY pizza. Chicago's "sauce on top" stuff can be very good, but to us New Yorker's it's not really pizza. Pasa Bon's fish pizza is interesting, but in my humble opinion it's not even the best pizza on Bonaire -- I'd put in a vote for Garden Cafe, Rum Runners, or Cappriccio's over Pasa Bon any day, but none of these are what any self-respecting NY pizzaholic would call real pizza. As a resident of New Hampshire for the last 6 years I must also lament that there is nothing within 50 miles of my house that qualifies as real pizza either.

Just to put this all in perspective, however, I am a firm believer in the credo I once saw on a poster in a Long Island pizza joint: "Pizza is like sex. When it's really good, it's great, and when it's not so great it's still really good!"

Oh no, here we go! LOL!!! Hey Scott, isn't the owner of Pasa Bon Pizza a New Yorker?

First, as a member of PA (Pizzaholics Anonomous), I guess I should start out with: "hi, I'm Scott, and I'm a Pizzaholic". Now everyone say "hi Scott!"

Yeah, I think you're right about that, Jeanine, but I'm a New Yorker too, and I can't make real NY style pizza either! And then there's the issue of slices vs. pies: another appeal of the prototypical NY pizza joint is walkin' in and sayin': "hey, gimme two slices ta go." Ah, and then there's the use of the term "pie"; I recently walked into a local NH pizza place and ordered a large cheese pie, at which time I was immediately pegged as a displaced New Yawkuh and was repeatedly informed that the "Yankees Suck!!".

I have to say that Pasa Bon pizza has the best peperroni pizza...to die for (but then, I'm from California so what do I know about pizza anyway?)

There used to be this place called Nello's in Phoenix where my parents lived. They were from Chicago...and they had fabulous pizza!

jeanine, joe is from new york...but buffalo, not nyc. and my nephew lives in brooklyn and has taken his parents out for pizza a lot...and they thought pasa bon was the best....

and scott, no matter how far you travel...no matter how remote the area...we all agree...the yankees suck...i was in dodge city kansas in 1999 during the AL playoffs with the indians vs yankees...i thought i had stumbled into a large group of indians fans since they were all rooting for cleveland...turned out they would root for anyone who was playing the yankees.

Don't listen to anyone else! Pasa Bon Pizza has the best pizza in the WORLD!!!!!! The owner is from New York and knows pizza. If you like sausage, get the spicy sausage pizza. And don't let the "fish" pizza scare you away, it's their specialty. And if you have fussy kids just order them their own small cheese, it's excellent!

The only reason you folks hate the Yankees is because you can't beat them. It's tough being the best team in baseball, but the Yanks are used to it, having won most of the world series ever held.

As far as the best pizza in the world, I think you have to have eaten pizza in a lot of countries to make that claim. Italy comes to mind. If you haven't eaten pizza all over the world, then it's simply the best pizza YOU'VE ever had.
Me, I'm from NYC, not Jersey. People from NJ are NOT from NYC, and are lying liars when they say they are. I don't care HOW many miles you are from midtown, you are from New Jersey and you can't drive a car well.

Oh yeah, my wife makes the best pizza. Sorry Lisa!

Whoa, Seb! Now, I just read this post and haven't the foggiest idea of why you attacked folks from Jersey.I clicked on the profile posts and I didn't see any posts from Jersey. I am from South Jersey, could care less about baseball, the best pizza is in the taste buds of the beholder that's MHO and I drive a car quite well, thank you very much. :-)

Debbie, Seb just got back or is on his way back from Bonaire...must be a BAD case of PBD ;-) Plus I detect a little bit of sarcasm in his post:-)

Hey Debbie...you solved the problem just like my best friend did a few years back. A huge group of us were debating the pizza issue and she pops up with "Which one do you like best? Then order that one and let the rest of us order what we like." I think we ordered from 5 different places that night. LOL! I really got burnt out on pizza when I was in Italy for 6 weeks, but it is nothing like the pizza here in the states. I have had pizza in 8 different countries, not nearly close to "all over the world." I have to say the spicy sausage at Pasa Bon ranks as the best so far for me. Followed by the cold veggie pizza I had outside the Pantheon, with the egg pizza I had in Switzerland running a close third. However, it is really hard to compare pizza across the globe because the concepts are not the same.

Yes, Cynde, I know all the above, one would think you would be in a great mood after just being on Bonaire! Just thought a little head check was in order. Sarcasm is not nice, PBD or not. :-) Not looking for a fight, far from it, but I do drive quite well. LOL!

I know his dry sense of humor pretty well, just the same dry sense of humor my hubby has, LOL, so I am used to it. But... sometimes you cross the line, and I think he jaywalked here. LOL! Back to cleaning this ole house. Did I tell you I drive quite well? :-)

Debbie, I never meant to offend you or anyone from the Garden State. Some of my very best friends are from NJ. Why I got off on that rant about NJ I do not remember, I'm blaming the seemingly endless rain. I was COLD last night on Bonaire, and that ain't right.

The sad truth is that 98% of the population of the USA think they are excellent drivers, when most of them are not.

And heck, I'm from NYC, so I MUST be rude and sarcastic! I'm pretty sure Giuliani passed a law to that effect.
ciao baby
Der Grumpmeister.

Welcome Back, Seb!! I just hadda bust on you, I really don't think you are rude and sarcastic, just a big ol'teddy bear under all that wolves clothing! Now, don't go sterotyping NYC folk, you'll get Mare mad at you, next! LOL!

Cold on Bonaire? Nope, that certainly doesn't sound right, but look at this way, you missed the strike, had warmer temps than most of us here on BT except for our southern BT'rs., didn't have to work, got to enjoy some great food and friends I am sure, got to go diving too, so put a big grin on that face and I look forward to a great trip report with lots and lots of pictures! We are due for a good trip report here.
