It's New Year's eve you must worry about--many non-resort restaurants do not serve dinner that night--quite the opposite of how it'd be in the US. Also, I've found that Christmas Eve is not really celebrated/recognized as it is in the US-here we have the first day of Christmas (25th) and the second day of Christmas, the 26th-both legal holidays (ofcs/banks closed). Almost every store is closed on the 25th (including grocery stores), and most on the 26th too-except this year there's a cruise ship in port on the 26th, so downtown stores might be open. Michael's right too--re: how busy places are this week in particular-good idea to plan ahead & make dinner reservations.

We had an outstanding xmas dinner at Gibis last year, extra special goat stew, very savory, and turkey, gravy, the whole nine yards. I highly reccommend it, it was a great dinner, even with a little rain and a short power outage.

I wonder if there are any other recommendations for Christmas Day Dinner? Something a little extra-special?

And should we plan on eating at a resort on New Year's Eve, then?

Yes, Laura, the resort restaurants stay open on New Year's Eve, and some of them do lovely fireworks displays later.
