We are due to stay at the Plaza at the end of the week and were considering if to have the Breakfast there. Does anyone know how much it is and is it worth it.

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil! I have never eaten breakfast any where else while on island - it is that good! The omlette lady there is fabulous!!! They have fruit, cheese, bread, cereal, eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, juices, coffee, tea, milk, breakfast pastries (to die for), and I think they had waffles too. (I'm sure I probably missed something.) When we booked our second trip, there was no discussion. It was understood that we would book the breakfast deal with the room.

Now...maybe someone who has eaten at the Plaza for breakfast as well as some where else on the island will chime in for a more balanced opinion.

Neil -

We don't remember how much is the breakfast, but we do know it is one of the major reasons we've stayed at the Plaza all four trips to Bonaire and undoubtedly will stay there the next trip.

Jeannie's description of the food is right on target and I can attest that they always have had waffles and pancakes.

The buffet is very nice, but please don't be expecting the extravagance and sophisticated presentation of a Four Seasons or Hyatt. This is Bonaire and everything is in context.

If you slow down and regard them as a significant social opportunity to meet the other guests (many of whom are Dutch, but speak enough English to visit), your Plaza breakfasts will provide you with many pleasant memories to take home.

I agree a balanced perspective would be useful and I'm sure we'll get it from someone. It's just we're not the folks to provide it as we've never seen any reason to go elsewhere.

I highly recommend the Lost Penguin. Large portions, very reasonably priced, atmosphere. Great place to people watch. Very good service.

Love the pancakes, waffles, and they have a great burger and salad as well.

Several years ago we ate breakfast at the Plaza our first morning on Bonaire. I think we paid $36 for the three of us (2 adults and 1 child). It was VERY good but we decided then and there that we couldn't pay that for every breakfast of a two week stay. We have since stayed where we have a full kitchen and make our own breakfast, have snacks and go out for dinner.

I have contacted the Plaza and they have confirmed that the cost is $12.00 each and you just pay when you have it. No booking required or buying it as a package. We have a small kitchen in our room at the plaza so we will probably alternate each day.

MMMhmmmm the yummy breakfast at the Plaza. Yes it is $12.00 per person. You get quite a variety of food. From omelets, sausages, bacon, waffles, toast, bagels, fruit, yogurt, juices, cereal, pastries, and cold cuts for sandwich if you wish to make. The omelet lady makes them good. Good choice for breakfast ! :-)

I also recommend breakfast at the Calabas restaurant at the Divi. It too is very good with a similar menu and it cost $12. We eat here our first morning before shopping and our last before flying. It sure beats airport food.

IMHO, the breakfast at the Plaza was overpriced. Also, there were small birds in the portion of the buffet where the fruit, meats and cheese is kept. We notified the staff about the birds being in the food and they took no action. I highly recommend the lost penguin for breakfast.

Bob, I've had similar experiences at Divi. I love the buffet, but at $15 per person, it's a bit pricey. And you can't leave your plate for a second or the birds are right on it! Though when I stay at Divi, I get the breakfast in the package because it's so easy to just eat and walk over to the dock for the morning boat dives.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those birds. They were hilarious! They kept opening up sugar packets on the table. This is why I love this board. The birds didn't even phase me because we are such out door people (shared many meals with ringtailed cats, howler monkeys, lizards, etc.). I never even thought about how inappropriate that would be in a restaurant. Isn't the Penguin an outside restaurant - or do they have inside seating as well?

Dem birds at the Divi buffet were a bit much for me, they are there before you are. Though the last time I stayed at the Divi, Reagan was President.

Jeanine, the Penguin is inside and outside seating, but you don't get the birds. I suppose because it's not right on the beach? I'm outdoorsy too but I don't want birds in my food... ick.. LOL!

I'm staying there right now. Breakfast was included in the package that I received. The food is all on the inside, so no birds. There is a fresh assortment of fruits, some meats and cheese. Assorted breads and cereals too. On the (sorta) hot side, are hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, Sausage, Bacon, Waffles, and crepes. They do make omlets to order as well.

All in all, for this being my 2nd trip to Bonaire, I think the accomodations and food are better at Buddy Dive, vs Plaza; that and you don't hear all the planes at Buddy Dive (plaza is right next to the airport) (Incidently, its been raining here almost daily, and apparently nearly 1/3 of the rooms at the plaza leak. Thankfully not ours :-)

Paul

We have just returned today from the Plaza and Breakfast every day. We were probably breakfasting at the same time. The food was great and lasted us all day till the evening meal. I think it is great value at $12.00.

We did have a leaky room though. The second bedroom of our 2 bed villa leaked all over the TV during the first storm and all over my sons bed on the second. The staff didn't seem to concerned about it.
