We are leaving for Bonaire within a week. We are very interested in the REAL local food of the island. Any suggestions?

Hopefully she will chime in here soon. If you scroll down through the topics, she's posted quite a bit about local places.

Definitely Gibis though. He has GREAT food.

Ok local eats:

El Fagon on Sorobon Road for SA fare
Takivi behind Consales on Industria Road has super Peruvian food. Dollars Terrace on Kaya J. Viette (near Napa) has local eats. Antriol Catering in Kaya Mariana has the best lunches..off Lageon Road. SUPER...

For local food there are numerous places, usually called "snacks", but three that come to mind are Maiky Snack (out in the outback on the way to Sorobon -- definitely ask for directions), the Rose Inn in Rincon, and of course Gibi's house for the Bonaire Talk dinner every Tuesday at 6:30pm. At all these places you can expect chicken stew, goat stew, fresh fish, sometimes conch, etc, with side dishes like funchi (sort of like polenta) or rice or fries.

I especially second the recommendations for: Gibi's (who is also open for lunch and dinner during the week, not just Tuesday for BTers!), Maiky Snack, El Fogon, Takivi (very near to Gibi's), and Antriol Catering. And there are certainly many others.

Maiky Snack on the weekend - my favorite.
