I may have answered this somewhere else... but Richards is a nice romantic place (bring bug spray). It Rains Fishes is nice, Casablanca, Croccantinos, all good !! Email me if any specific questions.

When is your birthday? I am going for my birthday too, in Oct. Also my one year anniversary! Anniversary dinner is at Richards; birthday PARTY is at Gibi's. Great local place with yummy food, very reasonable prices, and Gibi is a doll. ;)

Casablanca: filet mignon in mushroom sauce, french fries and salad. And rice ! It's the best meal on the planet. And for less than US$20 if I remember correctly.

understand also, that Ms. Baum considers french fries and mayonnaise gourmet cuisine;-{)}

Wishing you a most enjoyable trip!

If you're looking for a little more upscale dining experience for a birthday dinner, I would put Capriccio's at the top of my list; I've celebrated my birthday there twice. Outstanding Italian food, fine wines and service. I would recommend making a reservation there -- inside if you want AC, outside it not. A second choice for me would be Mona Lisa; superb food and service, with the only caveat being that there is no AC and if you are bothered by a somewhat warm dining experience you may not like it. Lion's Den would be another recommendation.

Deb,

I like any of the three "C" restaurants mentioned above - Casablanca, Croccantino's, and Capriccio's.

Enjoy - wish I could spend my birthday in Bonaire!

Belinda

I'm with Ms Baum....french fries and mayo with my steak! Heck, you can get that other stuff (baked potato, etc.) back home!! :-)

Richards for the sunset....
Casablanca for the all out value of great meat! You can live on the "Mixed Grill" for days.

Linda, there is something to be said for all that starch. I love a place that serves fries AND rice with your meal. Very civilized.

Definitely Wil's Tropical Grill - I think it has the "Three C's" beat.(IMHO) :-)

Carol,

We didn't get to Wil's on our last trip but enjoyed his creations at Lighthouse the trip previous. We'll definitely have to try his new place next time.

The M word (mayo - ugh, I feel sick just typing it) is about the nastiest, most disgusting substance on the planet! Please clean up your act and don't talk about that stuff anymore!
Thanks!

Howard, Howard, Howard... what a funny first post. However, do not EVER desecrate the name of mayonnaise .... it is a STAPLE right after AIR for god's sake... hee hee

And WELCOME TO BONAIRE TALK !! I just wanted to yell that. ;)

Kelly, thanks for the welcome! Haven't been to Bonaire yet - got reservations for Belmar Xmas 2005 (only 1 week, sigh). Taking wife and sons (15, 16). We dove last Xmas in Cozumel, and really looking forward to walking off the shore to dive!

But it looks like we'll have to be VERY careful about dining out - if Bonairians actually eat that stuff you think is air! One son can actually stomach it if forced (I think he's related to the FexEx driver...), but for anyone with taste (or a sense of smell) that M stuff is just plain repulsive and nauseating!! However, I have a death threat that was sent to a friend that a person of your culinary tastes may enjoy... sickfries

shhhhh! some folks put m--- on their french fries and they LIKE it!

M--- also makes a wonderful hair conditioner.

I like it in tuna salad and on a turkey sandwich. Maybe a little in egg salad but I've not even thought of trying m--- on my french fries. I'm not that brave....

Howard, maybe you need to try that new "mayonaisse dive" now offered in Holland. I think Martin is Mayonaise certified.

I have been going to Bonaire and Richard's Restaurant for the last ten years. Except for not seeing Robbie's smiling face behind the bar, nothing much has changed. The food is as good as ever. The service was very efficient, yet not overbearing, and Richard was as cordial and charming as ever. I must admit that my views are a bit biased because I think that eating at Richard's is as good as it gets. Where else can you enjoy a good meal, with the sound of waves lapping on the shore, and gaze at a sky full of diamond like stars. It's a wonderful experience and I couldn't imagine going to Bonaire without visiting Richard's Restaurant. If you go to Bonaire and don't get to Richard's you have missed out on a real treat.

If you go to Richards, be sure to reserve the table at the end of the dock. Really a special event to have dinner there.

Howard,

Will also be at Belmar 12-20-05 through 1-1-06 with our 15 y/o daughter. See you there. Used to share your opinion re mayo. Now agree it is a necessity of life. But not on fries. That's just sick.

David
