Not sure where to ask this, since this forum is about dining decided to ask here. I love having fresh fruits & cheeses with a glass of wine for lunch or late afternoon snack. Where is the best place on the Island to get the wonderful Dutch Cheeses and good fresh tropical fruits?

Thanks,

Suzanne

Wonderful cheeses at the Warehouse supermarket--down the road from Lisa gas. And great fresh fruit at the Venezuelan fruit stand across from City Cafe. The passionfruits are excellent! Mix with pineapple and papaya and lime juice and you will have a wonderful fruit salad.

There's a really delicious cheese I've only recently discovered here, called "Vincent." Most stores carry a variety of the Dutch cheeses-Warehouse, More-for-Less, Tropical Flamingo, Cultimara, etc. Keep in mind that this is a desert island, and that tropical fruits are not grown here, but are regularly imported.

Ruth, what kind of cheese is Vincent? I like to taste different cheeses, and I might like to try Vincent on our next trip.

Uh, old, hard, in big wheels with brownish skin-but that doesn't make anything sound good...(you can buy wedges of it at the stores). Isn't it available in Holland? I figured it was Dutch & named after van Gogh (maybe "Vincent" is it's export/tourist name?). It never lasts long enough in our refrigerator to allow investigation time. The texture is similar to parmesean, but taste is richer & smoother than aged gouda.

For fruit: The fruit stand by the dock is very good (from Vz.). Also Bonaire Warehouse (fruit from Holland) and the place out past the Catholic Church (more for less?) has stuff rom Equador.

Try some of the gouda with the fennel seeds in it--that's one of the best tasting cheeses of all times!!!
