It looks like there's a lot of nice food on the Island, but..............Can anyone tell me if the Island has the right ingredients to make some of the many (home cooked) Japanese dishes?
Ever since I've been back from Japan,(4 years ago),I miss the food. So I was just wondering....

Cultimara had frozen una-ju (barbequed eel) that we prepared for dinner one night. We saw a lot of frozen seafood with Japanese labels.

Thank you Ron,

you have made my day!
Can't go anywhere without eating (or rather a self cooked) Japanese meal!
Ever had Tako-yaki, anyone?

Better yet - Bonaire does have a real Japanese sushi bar now! Open since last month, I believe.

Linda and I had dinner there last Sunday - I think it's called the Imperial Japanese Restaurant. It's located south of Zeezicht, directly across from Karel's Beach Bar. They had a nice selection of fish and stuff, as well as things like Edamame, seaweed salad, hot sake, and tempura.

Everything we tried (seaweed salad, edamame, several kinds of maki (salmon skin, flamingo roll), hamachi (yellow tail), unagi (fresh water eel) was good, and the prices were very reasonable (the dinner for two we had cost less than sushi just for me in Dallas the week before at Steel, a pan-asian restaurant). With tip, dinner for two with one sake was $70.

Only one note of warning - they put tax down on the bill as being 15%. Tax here is only 5%, which makes the additional 10% the service charge. As such we left a 10% tip on top of that.

Anyhow, we're now trying to figure out how often we need to eat there to keep them in business :-)

Highly recommended for those needing their sushi fix on Bonaire and not having the desire, skills, and/or energy to make their own.

That's some good news there, Jake! Thanks for the information.
I might be going there, if we ever reach Bonaire.
Woman's got to have a day off someday...Japanese food is the best diet I've ever had.
When I was staying in Japan, I was 42 kilo's.
As soon as I was back in holland, within 3 weeks I gained 3 kilo's. When I quit dancing, I gained another 2 kilo's. I'm just dying to get on that Japanese diet again...........Most delicious diet I can think of!
