Conch soup in a bread bowl at Bistro de Paris, or served local style at Antriol Catering (Kaya Mariana) or Dollar Terrace on Kaya Jean BF Vitte (near NAPA)..yummy...

I can't remember if Richard's still has conch on the menu ?????

If so... this is my absolute favorite and then Antriol Catering second.

I have to agree with Annie, the Conch soup at the Bistro de Paris is to die for!

I love conch as much as the next guy, but I thought it was illegal to "catch"/harvest, conch off the shores of Bonaire? Could someone help me out on this ruling?

There is a restaurant in Aruba called El Gaucho that makes a mouth-watering, melt in your mouth, tender to die for conch specialty.....I could never replicate their recipe even tho our waitress/hostess buddy gave the darn thing to me! It is tenderized to a very thin piece of "meat" and then a creamy sauce is placed on top....oh...the absolute best! I have never been able to find another place in the world who could prepare it the way they did.

So, is the conch being served on Bonaire "legal" or not? Just curious. Carole

The conch served in restaurants here is imported frozen (legal)--it is not from our own waters.

I had absolutely yummy conch at Zeezicht along with the best rice and beans I've ever had. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

Frozen conch? Now that's disappointing, I have to use that at home. The fresh stuff is always better. Oh, well, better than nothing.

Bob, I am with you - fresh is best. Especially if you have collected it. However, I have had good conch chowder on Bonaire.

Darlene, For some reason, I am not surprised you ate two appetizers before your meal;-{)}

Dod they do conch ceviche in Bonaire? I love fritters and grilled conch, but ceviche is the best for a good snack.

Ruth
I think I posted this remark a couple of years ago, but didn't really get an answer. I have believed that all sea food on Bonaire other than finfish is frozen or at least imported. Am I mistaken or not?
Mickey

There would be no way to serve conch in the amounts desired/required, fresh from our waters (that's what led us to the near total depletion years ago, which resulted later in restrictions meant to give local conch a time to replenish).

"Catch of the Day" is just that--caught by local fishermen in our own waters--whatever it is-tuna, wahoo, dorado, snapper, etc. Shrimp & scallops are imported, since they're not native to our waters (commercial quality or amounts anyway), like Dover Sole & Smoked Salmon & anchovies... I believe all the lobster served is fresh & locally caught (Caribbean lobster/no claws).

But don't forget Herring--when it's in season, that's flown in fresh from Holland, and consumed raw with chopped onions on top. Hmmmm, FRESH!
