Hello! We're coming over Jan 20 for a week at
your beautiful island - my girlfriend is a
vegetarian - can anyone recommend a restaurant
which has several choices on the menu or any
restaurants which specialize?

Thanks ever so much!

Carl

How strict?
dairy, egg or not?

Hi Linda -

She is a vegan - no dairy or egg strictly - but
I think primarily no meat or fish is the main
thing, no dairy, cheese, egg preferably.

Thanks :-) Carl

This thread above has some commentary by two vegans about food. Faith and Dan Senie (also of the BonaireWebCams) are vegan and have been down several times. They would probably be happy to answer any questions. The Garden Cafe mentioned serves Lebenese food. Faith and Dan always visit RendezVous. They call ahead to warn the chef and give him time to prepare something special. In most restaurants here they haven't got the vegan part down pat. Many forget that cream/milk based foods, cheese, and egg noodles are a problem.

Canned and dried beans are readily available. Soy products like milk and tofu are available but not a lot more than that.

Thanks Linda!

If anyone has other ideas let me know please -
otherwise we'll 'call ahead' and see what some
of the island's hotter spots can put together!

I know my place wouldn't normally jump into mind, but if she needs to snack, my: french fries, mashed potatoes (without the gravy-ask & they'll make it for you), and corn-on-the-cob (the "butter" is actually flavored soybean oil--the rest of you don't freak out-it always has been and you've been eating it that way for 7+ years), all meet your requirements. Kentucky Fried Chicken.
