Years ago I was a little traumatized by the price of beer in the Cayman Islands. I seem to remember they were about 5$ each regardless of in a cafe or to go. I love trying new beers when I travel. My best memories of Thailand are sitting out in the heat in cafes everynight with my hand wrapped around a tall Singha. Are there any other typical Drinks that are common in Bonaire?

Cold ones

Favorites are
Amstel Bright (brewed in Curacao I think)
Polar (brewed in Venezuela)
Balashi?...(maybe Aruba)
Amstel Regular
Speckeled hen Ale (only available at Lion's Den)
Regular Suspects

Bright and Polar are usually found in 7 ounce bottles and cost from around $1 US up to about $2.50 in more upscale bars. I have to agree with you about beer prices in Cayman, we were there a couple of years ago and I bought a case of Red Stripe (that had been exported to US then reimported to Cayman) and it was like $70 US in the grocery store. Beer's way more reasonable on Bonaire.

Typical Drink....Rum and Coke,
Rum and Coke
Coke and Rum
Rum Punch
I think the Dutch drink a lot of gin (gin makes me forget)

I learned this one from a Puerto Rican friend in Miami, mix about 2/3 shot of Lemon Rum with a Bright or a Polar....way tasty

Happy Travels
Joe

Chet, YAY for the picture of the beers! I remember Polar beer in a bottle, I've never seen it in a can. I like the 7 oz. Brights. Being a lightweight drinker, two Brights are just right for me.

On the last trip I had a bunch of Amstel and Polar. To my taste, the Polar was by far the better beer.

Ok...no one mentioned Heineken. That is usually a choice with the two Amstels. The dutch are beer drinkers. Hard liquor is not as popular, I guess because it is expensive and when you're thirsty beer does the trick. For those of you who like the "sweet" drinks, just about all bars have that frozen mix machine for daqueris, margaritas, etc.
And the cans are sooooo little, you need more than a six pack! That Lemon Bacardi and Bright sounds great!

I loved the shortie bottles! Wish they would make more of them (in GOOD beer!) in the US!

I must say, I never have liked rum in any form, but my daughter and family lived in Puerto Rico for two years, then I went to Aruba and then Bonaire will be back........and since two of my FAVORITE things are pineapple and coconut....well, am beginning to learn that rum and the tropics go well with pineapple and coconut and warm breezes......<g>

Have a rum drink on me! Have a beer! Heck have two! But not Heineken, I'm allergic to it! (Seriously!)

And, um, I'm Italian

Doug,
I have lower standards, I add a third kind: "Free", which isn't always easy to find.
