We have a trip to Bonaire planned for 3 weeks (Feb 14 to Mar 6). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and directions to some of the local and less expensive places to eat dinner. This forum has been an invaluable resource for information on this and other subjects and for that I thank everyone. Maybe people would provide an up to date list of these eateries or their suggestions/recommendations under one thread for me and other travelers. Some places I am interested in are Gibi’s Terrace, Caniceria Latino, Maikey Shack, Antriol Catering, BobbieJans. I am sure I spelled some wrong. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I also heard there was a small place by Napa / Budget Marine. Also I understand that some of these places are only open certain days so that information would also be helpful. I am counting the days & can’t wait!!

Welcome to the BT board.

If you do a keyword search on the Dining thread for cheap, budget, or inexpensive, or using a partial name of any of the restaurants on your list, you should come up with plenty of commentary.

Gregg, Welcome aboard! My husband and I are going to be there Feb 7 - 23 so hope to see you at Gibi's for the Tues nite get together. We are cheap Canadians, so always looking for a bargain. Last time we ate at City Cafe which was very inexpensive and Uno Mundo who had awesome Dutch food. We ate at Zeezicht one night - good food but I was glad the other couple paid! That's my 2 cents worth. See ya there.

city cafe is good. also, it rains fishes was a favorite. obviously gibi's. rib factory and mangos were good too..and not too expensive. we had a number of good meals at rendez vous also. our only bad experience in almost 10 years was at the restaurant at great escape last summer. very pretty place with a nice indoor pool (not for swimming) that had lily pads and turtles in it...but it also had rats running around the rock wall behind it...my wife was not amused by them at all.

We were in Bonaire last year when the Casablanca opened up and we can hardly wait to get back there this year. It is right down the street from the Divi heading into town. For the old timers it used to be Danny's Capricorn but you would not recognize the place. It is clean and painted and has a huge turning grill and they are a wonderful family. They give servings that always include a very good salad and rice or potatoes, The portions are Phenomenal to say the least The taste is wonderful. I would say if you are into meat it is one of the best meals on the island. I will be there the 8th of Feb

Thanks to those that posted information - I am looking forward to trying most of these places. Is the BT get together at Gibis every Tues? Again, any other suggestions and / or reviews are greatly appreciated.

Gregg, yes, everyone meets at Gibi's on Tuesday nights. Go over to "Everything Else" under Topics, and find Chet's thread February/March Btalkers on Island (named something like that) and have him put you on the list:-) If you have trouble finding it (Chet's thread) just holler! Have a great time!

Oh, Cappricios and Crocatino have excellent food, but they are not "inexpensive." They are however, a LOT less expensive than Jack in the Box here in Southern California though!

Gregg,

try across the street from Giby's...China Nobo...fairly reknown...great food...price is good also. If you drive around, make sure you stop at Rose Inn in Rincon (right in the sharp bend in the main road)...good local food (goat/fish etc)...more upscale but still fair prices try Crocantino's for Italian, Old Inn for Indonesian and Swiss Chalet for German/Swiss...stop and see Bart/Rouland at the WannaDive Hut for a few beers and local flavor; the small bistro next door is also good

Bongo's Bar at Eden Beach is good for lunch - simple and cheap. Rum Runners has fabulous pizza as well as other good food. Lion's Den gives a big bang for the buck. Check to see when their lobster night is.

Tuesday BT get together at Gibi's is now 6:30 pm -- it's a real fun evening.

Another inexpensive, good place (only for carnivores though) is Grill Terrace on Kaya Corona. Just had a great sirloin steak there -- a half roasted chicken is only 6 Naf (8 Naf for grilled half) VERY good steak, served with yucca fries and salad.

Definitely Bobbejeans....only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights but outrageous ribs, steak and chicken sate. Probably the most reasonable dinner we had on Bonaire, along with Gibi's. (even if you do have to give up your garlic shrimp for the greater good of the group (the wahoo was excellent too)
