Hello,
My wife and I and our 15yr old son will be coming to Bonaire in March for the first time.
Basically a dive vac. We have been to Aruba and wondered if the food was similar.
We tend to like places the locals like in Aruba and would like some ideas! Breakfast, maybe
a baggel. Lunch will probably be on the run as we will be driving to our second dive spot! Then a nice dinner. By the way we are staying at the Plaza. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

Dave,
Can't help much with where to eat (but there is a lot of advice/recommendations available and can be found with some 'keyword' searches; but now to the point of my message-
I again make my plea: I'm compiling a list of "on-Island" visit for Feb & March to see if get-togethers can be planned; so what dates are you going to be there. We (Jean & I) are to be there 23 Feb - 9 March, staying at Sand$ (in the Alan & Joan Zale condo).

Bagels are tough to find. Cultimara sometimes has some in the bakery and some frozen ones as well.

If you want to try local food for breakfast, a fun place is Luigi's on Kaya Grandi. Get the Pastechi Keshi - fried pastry stuffed with cheese. (I had one a couple days ago - yum.)

Gobey's and Liberty are open for breakfast. Other than those most of the hotels have restaurants open for breakfast and some of the snacks offer breakfast.

By lunchtime, you have many more options. I can't even think of a place not to try. For local food, just stop at any snack which might just be a window to order food with a table or two. For specific places like Maiky's and Bon Bini Terrace (both highly recommended), you should ask for specific directions once you get there.

Don't forget Cozzoli's for Breakfast...one of my first choices and also ZeeZichts. Take a look also at www.bonairenet.com/diningguide As for bagels, I just ate my last one from Zabars and will be forced to resort to the ersatz, frozen ones until next week when my friends from Manhattan arrive. Also other locations for local food, try Giby's for lunch or dinner. They are all listed in the Dining guide.

Where is Bon Bini Terrace?

ZeeZichts has neat items for sure. I had iguana soup! Wow, it was nice and their fish and fungi was lovely.

I also found a neat Chinese place across from another neat snack shop (Had great sate) on thr corner of Kaya Industria on the way to Sorobon..sorry, did NOT get the name.

that was Nadia Snakck which is just past China NObo, accross the street from Giby's. Bon Bini Teras is on Kaya Mariana, the third left off the road to lagon after you turn on from Kaya Korona. I dont want anyone to think that eat out all the time...we are getting ready to publish the 20002 Dining guide and recipe book....yeah,I know, likely story.

Can you tell me who has good pastechis past 10 or 10:30 in the morning? By the time we get back from a morning dive, the selection is pretty limited with no freshly made ones available.

The airport restauranthas hot pastechies unitl around 10 or so. Ann, the are mear, fish, or cheese filled turnovers that are generally deep fried. I make them using premade skins and fill them with apples instead and also bake them. Also, Daphene's grandmother (diana's) mom makes the best fried ones.

Has anyone gone to Lac Bay for the Sunday party? That is a big local event isn't it? I have not been yet.

I know Lorraine and Jim Meadows (one of the original BT'er's) make a point of going over there every Sunday they are on the Island...they have a ball! We seem to get sidetracked and have not made it yet, but I have only heard great stories about the fun, the food, the party and, of course,...the beautiful people of Bonaire. Carole
