In a trip report, it mentions that the ice cream place in Rincon went out of business. Is this true?

I know last year in August, they closed for a few weeks for vacation. Could this be the case?

Please let me know. We're going for 2 weeks at Christmas and we are bring my brother along and my wife and son (ice cream fanatics) have been thelling him (another ice cream fanatic) all about it. I, personally, don't care for it (not much of an ice cream fan) but this would break their hearts.

Tom

Tom, It was our report that included this news. According to what the tourist office told us, the older woman who owned the place (and I guess got it started) died. Her daughter tried to take it and run it but just couldn't. So from what they told us, it is closed permanently. Sorry.

This is sad news, indeed. She always had such a great smile on her face to greet us each time we were there...which was quite often on each trip.
Here is a picture of the sweet lady taken in 2002. She must have thought Joe and I were buying enough ice cream (Ponche Creama was my fav) for lots of folks...but, in reality, we were just Prisca hogs/pigs! We would stock up for the two weeks...the freezer was always full of Prisca's ice cream. Each trip to Rincon or the Park we always stopped by to say hello. Sweet lady. CaroleMs. Prisca

Sorry to hear the sad news. Carole, I agree with you about her always having a smile.

Really sad news. My son will be disappointed. Her son Sherman would work there when not working at the airport. Very, very nice people.

The lady in that picture did not die. Did she? She was there in August when she closed down. She told me becuase the materials (imported from Holland) were too expensive to continue. We bought up her last Coconut ice cream, and she was already out of Pina-Colada when we were there. She finally closed around the middle of our second week there.

Boy, I hope she is still alive! Can anyone on the island confirm this or let us know what's up? I hope she is still alive and well but we will definitely miss Prisca's ice cream either way. Lovers Ice Cream will benefit with additional sales, no doubt!

Can anyone let us know what the scoop is??? (no pun intended!) :-) Carole

Well I like your story better John. That was the lady in early June very friendly. Sad to see it go after we finally found the place.

Honestly, guys, we're not trying to be doomsday reporters or start any kind of wild rumors. This was the actual story told us by a man working in the Bonaire Tourist office downtown. We also hope it's not true. Maybe the woman in the photo is the daughter?

OK...I just got off the phone with Michael Gaynor (Chat n Browse) and he wanted us to know he has been very busy today and was unable to respond sooner....Ms. Prisca is alive and well! Her brother, Sherman, told Michael they were closing down the ice cream business and that's it...no one has passed away and they are well.

So, this is good news and sad news to all of us. Glad to hear she is fine and sad to know we will no longer be enjoying Prisca's ice cream.

Thanks, Michael! You are a sweetheart and we miss you. I will chat with you again soon.

Oh...Michael now has Cuban cigars, sunglasses, reading glasses (for folks my age, I guess, LOL) and some more neat stuff in his store for those of you who will be on Bonaire in the future. Great place to shop and chat on the Internet.

I'm already going thru Prisca's withdrawal knowing it will not be in our freezer next time we are on Bonaire.....sniffle, sniffle. Ayo. Carole

Sorry to hear about Prisca's. It was a favorite of my wife and mine. I'm the diver and she goes along for the drive. Web rent scooters and every day have an ice cream at Prisca's. Nothing good lasts forever.

Actually, I think the ice cream at Temptations (in the small "mall" downtown where Cellular One is located) is better... Smaller selection though.

Jake

But getting ice cream in Rincon was such an regular thing! You dive anywhere up north and get ice cream on the way back! If Michael sees her, give her our best!

Will miss Prisca's as well.

Like Peggy, whenever I dove up north the pick-up always seemed to turn onto that little side road.

I have also had good ice cream at a little blue place. I believe it is called Bon Awa(sp?).
