For all those who miss the good pizza the Leeward Inn use to offer before they closed, good news!

I just got a call from Ditte, one of the former proprietors of the Leeward Inn, and she and her husband are opening a new pizza place. The first night of operation is slated for this Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, perhaps as early as 4pm (we plan on going at 6pm). Prices aren't quite set yet, but a large 16 inch one-topping pizza should run between NAF 20-30. They will also be offering salads and other foods and will initially be open only Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights. No phone yet (should get one next week).

They are located on Kaya Gob. N. Debrot between Marlies' Sail Shop and the civil guard station (north of Harbourtown Realty, south of Harbour Village), on the east side of the road.

Thank God! I have been in complete and painful Pizza withdrawl ever since they closed! No offense to the other pizza providers on Bonaire, who each have their own redeeming features, but Ditte/Leeward Inn had the only pizza that reminded me of the pizza I used to get in the states. I am thrilled and wish them all the best!

Hey Jake..How was the pizza at Ditte's new place? Did you go Friday?

Alas, they were having oven problems Friday night (I heard later these got fixed and that they had guests until 5am in the morning). We tried again Saturday night, but the oven problem returned (electrical issue). Last night when we passed by there was a sign out saying that they would reopen on Wednesday once mechanical problems were resolved. So, we still haven't had the pizza, but are still eagerly awaiting sinking our teeth into some... :-)

Boy, now I have another reason to 'can't wait' to get to Bonaire!

Okay, finally, after overcoming some sort of weird electrical and mechanical problems, "Papa Don's Pizza Parlor" opened for real a couple of nights ago (Saturday). We had chance to sample the wares last night, ordering four pizzas: Vegatarian, Plain Cheese, Pepperoni & Onion, and Hawaiian (ham and pineapple). All were very good and quite appreciated by the international audience at our house, which included: a Brit, a Belgian, two Dutch folk, two Americans (us), and a horde of children.

They also now have a phone - 790-7272 and it's advisable to call ahead to place your take out order. Nice dining facilities are available as is a bar, although you may want to spray some Off on your clothes and exposed body parts because there are a number of mosquitos present (it rained quite a bit a few weeks ago, which results in sudden, but temporary mosquito population spikes).
