I have my own equipment that is several years old but still trustworthy. I am traveling with my wife who is a non-diver and would probably be doing 1 dive a day during my 8 day stay. We will be doing lots of snorkling and will bring our own equipment. What is the cost of renting gear? Am I better off bring my own equipment? I am concerned about theft during travel from San Diego - Montego Bay. TIA

Definitely take your own masks, snorkel, fins, booties, and a skin. If you have have your regulator and console set up the way you like it, take it. All of these items can be put in a back pack or carry on bag along with a change in clothes, at least one swim suit, and any meds you need. If your BC is not a "standard" size you may want to pack it in your checked luggage. I have never lost anything, but my luggage has arrived several days late. Shorty wetsuits can be rented if you feel the need beyond wearing a t-shirt under your skin. You will not need many changes of clothes - t-shirts, shorts, and sandals will do unless you plan on attending church services. There is a laundry that will wash, dry, and fold your clothes for a nominal fee, the charge is by kilo.
