Ok, folks. I've posted some under water photos on-line from my trip to Bonaire last month to share with all of you. Keep in mind that I'm a beginner under water photographer. I used a rented MX-10 and had the photos developed by Kodak's Sea Processing. These pics may dissapoint some of you more seasoned photo experts, but we've had fun with them. The link is shown below. Don't forget to sign the guest book!

John:
Real nice photos...Don't spread the word that this is a first effort. You will make all of us who have been trying hard for years feel bad about our attempts!

Thanks, Robert. You have to give some credit to Kodak's Sea Processing, though. We had our first roll developed through regular processing and later had it developed again through Sea. You wouldn't believe the difference. I highly recomend it.

Hi, John:
For some reason I can't get past the first page with the mini-pictures. When I click on a thumbnail, nothing happens. I have Roadrunner cable so normally things download fast. Any idea what's happening?
P.S. I'm NOT good with computers!

Josie,
I'm not sure why you're having difficulty with the pictures. You could try to e-mail Zing.com to see if they have a solution.

I tried again John, and this time allowed the "cookies", then it worked. GREAT pictures, made me want to be there! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Thanks for sharing your photos. we just got back yesterday. Do not have our pictures yet. Where were the squid? We saw a whole family in front of Sand Dollar. Love the turtle. Been to Bonaire nine times and still have not seen one.

Alan & Joan,
The picture of the squid was taken in very shallow water at 1,000 Steps. I'd say that 1,000 steps had some of the most diverse marine life of all the sites that we dove.

The turtle was at Angel City. We saw another turtle at Joanna's Sunchi off Klein Bonaire. Make sure to post your pictures on the 'net!

Pictures are great. Are 1000 steps and Angel City good locations for snorkelers?

1000 Steps is ok for snorkeling. There was a snorkeler there when we showed up. Angel City is accessed by boat and has a shallowest depth of 20ft.

thanks for adding the pictures. Where do you get Kodak Sea processing and what is the difference? Did you have them developed in Bonaire?

Angel City is accessed by boat but it is also a
pretty easy shore dive or snorkel, as are all the
sites south of the airport. Actually the whole
shore there is a 'dive site'-you can go in
anywhere and have a good dive between the
marked, buoyed sites that the boats visit. That
is a beauty of Bonaire for diving and
snorkelling.
I believe the only caveat south is the Salt Pier
where there may be diving restrictions. Check
at any dive operation- they will be happy to give
you information.

Hi to all of you. I have been perusing this site and feel like I'm among friends! You all seem to love Bonaire like we do (I'm Vickie & my husband is David). David is trying to improve his underwater photography skills and was put on to an instructor at Sand Dollar, Jim Brandon ~ we have found out that he is no longer there. Any clue as to where he might be (still on the island?, etc.) We stay at Divi every year and love it there ~ really laid back but the diving and snorkeling is fantastic. Last year, while snorkeling I saw 3' rainbow parrot fish ~ first time ever ~ I was glad I had a friend with me for corroboration. Unfortunately, we could not get close enough to photograph them. They were really awesome!
Could someone tell me what Sea Processing is? and how did you post your photos online for all of us to enjoy (they were great by the way)~do you have to use a special developer or get them on disc?
Thanks in advance to any of you who will respond.

Jim Brandon's efforts can be seen at http://photographics.infobonaire.com - he's still on island.

For posting images on-line here, look at the directions given by Linda Richter (my wife) in the Bonaire WebCams section of this newsgroup. For getting them into the computer, you need a scanner or a scanning service (and yes, some developers will give you a floppy at extra cost if you want).

I'll let others answer the question about Sea Processing, because I've not used that service yet.

Jake

Jake: Thanks so much for the info on Jim ~ I've emailed him right away. Will check out the info given by your wife also. Thanks again.

Vickie,

Sea Processing was developed by Kodak with Sea&Sea Underwater Photography, in order for more accurate color reproduction of U/W photography prints. To put it in very simple terms it is basically taking normal 35mm film and developing it digitally. The results are astounding. There is only one lab in the US that currently is doing Sea Processing, Dale Labs in Florida, due to the fact that the machine used in the processing costs around $40,000.00. The way it works now is that there are selected Sea & Sea Underwater Photography Dealers around the US and in the Caribbean that sell the mailer envelopes for the Sea Processing. You then just mail the film to Dale Labs (pre-addressed envelopes) and in about 5 days your prints will be mailed back to you. You also have the option to receive your images on a Kodak Photo CD for an additional fee. The mailer envelopes will cost you around $16.00. When you are next in Bonaire, come by and see us as we have the envelopes in our Photo Facility. You can also learn more about Sea Processing at http://www.seaandsea.com
Sorry this explanation was so long.

The Sea&Sea URL in Jack's message is
returning a 'URL not found' dialog even though
it is the URL in Sea&Sea's ad in the March '00
Skin Diver.
