i just responded with the above message, but in looking further, i think i am wrong with the purple anthias answer, how 'bout a creole wrasse, initial phase (stage before juvenile (baby)?). anyway, i tried.

Creole wrasse is right. Anthias are not found in the Caribbean (or in the Atlantic, I think).

Hi Glenn,
Yes, I had to look up this fish when I got home because I was stumped too. Paul Humann's fish ID book confirmed it for me,,Creole Wrasse. They were amazing! One afternoon we were diving one of the house reefs...Buddy's or Capt. Don's? (I can't remember) and literally hundreds and hundreds of them came streaming past us. The parade lasted for at least 3 minutes. I couldn't believe the shear numbers of them! Happy diving, Robyn

Jake,

you're right...we just returned from indonesia where we saw anthias, so i had them on my mind. glad to see the creole wrasse was right though.

Thanks for your expertise everyone! I initially looked in Paul Humann's book before posting. Saw the Creole Wrasse but the lack of a distinctive yellow belly in the book threw me off. Glad you folks caught it, you're the best!

Anybody want to take a stab at this one? Taken not too far from the webcam, i looked it up in Humann but why spoil the fun? There were about four of them on a gorgonian.

It almost looks like a Slimy Doris but with white markings?

It's a West Indian Simian Gail, I guess nobody else found it interesting.

I guess because I do u/w photography I find the small things especially interesting. I'll have to unpack my fish id books to see if I can find a West Indian Simian. When I dive I frustrate my husband (buddy) because I am quite happy to stay in one place if I'm doing macro. I can spend a whole tank in a 20' or so circle.
