Hi, again!
As you can see, we are preparing for our trip big time!
1.We have never been to Bonaire in June and were wondering if there is anything different happening on the nature scene in June. For instance, are the turtles laying or hatching eggs? Is the coral spawning? Or, even anything different above water such as plant life, stars anything at all that is abundant particularly in June? When we visited one September we saw the most spectacular sunsets every night, but when we visited in November, they were pretty, but not quite the same in brilliance. Just wondering what nature treats June might offer?

2.Where are the best places to bird and especially butterfly watch, besides Gotto Meer.

3.Also, regarding the coral spawning, can snorkelers see this also? If so, where is best?

4.We had recently seen some scary postings about jellyfish, but happily, have never seen them in Bonaire. Will they be likely to be there in June? If so, what precuations should we take and what snorkel areas are they likely to frequent?

5.Any pointers on where snorkelers can find starfish/seastars, dolphins (I guess they are rare).

6.Are there any other snorkel sites where they have put in metal ladders to make for easy entry as they did at Oil Slick Leap?

SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, but we want to maximize every minute on Bonaire! We love its treasures so much! Thanks for all your help!!!!!

Cheryl

hi...I sugggest you contact jcligon@bonairelive.com. He has all these answers and knows more about our flora and fauna than just about anyone. You should arrange to take one of his nature or bird watching/butterfly tours (no, he does not pay me to tout him. I just think he is one of Bonare's greatest assets)

Definitely, take one of Jerry Ligon's tours. But, noy only on land: he does fish ID trips and guided snorkel tours where you learn an amazing quantity of interesting things.
About bird wathcing: I found one of the more interesting areasto be the area around Lac Bay, with all the mangroves and different habitats. Not just the area where you snorkel, but all the road on the way to Lac Cai. And don't forget Pos di Mangel and Put Broswinkel, in Washington-Slagbaai Park.
There was a thread on Coral Spawning last year, around this time. If you can find it you will learn practically all there is on the subject (but no, it is not in June, as far as I can remember).
I think that in Bachelors Beach there is a ladder into the water; but what about all the oter shore entries? You don't need a ladder for those!

Bachelor's Beac is more of a staircase and also a sandy entry. It is easy but it has limited coral but lots of fish...

Cheryl - For birds, also make a stop at the spring called Fontein, it's off the road to Rincon. It's marked with a small sign.

Thank you Michael, Dave and Antonio for your helpful info. I will check out all the sites that you mention. Antonio, I will try to find that thread on coral spawning too, sounds very interesting! Must be quite a sight! And, yes, I know there are lots of shore entries, but I would love to try Diana's Leap (is that right?) and some others that escape me at the moment, that seemed like they would be very difficult entries from shore as snorkelers.
If anyone else has any additional tips on the above questions, I'll thankfully take all I can get!

Cheryl
