I'm am planning my first trip to Bonaire and I thought I read somewhere that there is a class that each diver needs to take before they can dive. Is this class about reef education and conservation? Where do you take the class? And, when are the classes offered?

Thanks!

Bethany ... your dive shop of choice will do an orientation to the Marine Park, a check-out dive to check your bouyancy and then issue your Marine Park Tag (fee). After that you are set to go! Some dive shops do the orientation at set times while others have more flexible schedules. Check with your dive shop for details.

Most shops issue your park tag right after your orientation talk and sign-ups. The 'check-out' dive is for you to do from the shore/pier at your dive operation so you can check your bouancy and equipment out before you go off boat or shore diving elsewhere.

If you have only done cold water diving with a 7mm wetsuit or with a drysuit, it may take a few tries before you have the proper weight setup for diving with skins or a minimal thickness wetsuit.
