I'm going there soon and I would just love to see
a manta ray there.

AJ I have been going to Bonaire for many years and have never seen a Manta Ray. There are yearly reports of Manta Ray sightings, but you may have to be content with the many eagle rays, leopard rays, sting rays, etc. that show themselves regularly.

We have seen Manta Rays in Bonaire a few times. Not this time BUT a BIG eagle ray (bigger than we usually see) at Red Slave last week.

We have seen a Manta Ray on the first week of February at the Invisibles when were snorkeling. It was a fantastic experience. Unforgettable!

OK - I have a manta ray story....
Way back when, 4 of us were doing an annual New Year's day dive at one of the north sites, I was far (FAR) off the reef where I usually hang out. Three small manta rays came in from offshore, looked at me and went in to check out the three other divers. As they passed over the bubbles of one diver, one manta bumped into another manta -- I swear they looked embarassed - and left in a tumble of wings and tails. I was reminded of a bunch of teen-age boys - all legs and arms and not much co-ordination. It was Wonderful!

Spooked themselves, like kids, or us, on a dark night??

The Stinapa 'Antillean Fish Guide' says mantas are
'rare in the N.A.' I wonder if it isn't just 'rarely seen in
the N.A.' because we don't dive in prime plankton
areas. Diver reports from the Pacific seem mostly to be
in current areas with lots of larger planton.
