We returned from Bonaire March 13. We found Margate bay heading south to be good as was Andrea II, Oilslick leap, and our favorite Karpata with it's resident turtles. Visibility varied day to day. We found Tories Reef destroyed and North Belham and Windsock not much better. It is still possible to find great snorkeling.

We also returned from Bonaire March 13. We agree
that Margate Bay was a good spot (if you missed
the prior posting, go to the first paved pull over
after the yellow rock). In the park, Wyaca was
the least damaged. Funchi was completely wiped
out. (By the way, they have been working on the
park road and it is much better). I know these
postings try to be encouraging, but, if you have
made previous visits, it is a big change.
There are still good spots, but the days of
jumping into the water just about anywhere and
finding a beautiful reef will be gone for a long,
long time. At least it was the result of a
natural, not man-made, disaster.

Isn't there usually a bit of current in the Margate area? Compared to Andrea, for example, not to Belize!

We had no trouble at all with the current, though we were only there once and conditions may be different with the tides. It is definitely worth the trip and, if the tide is out, there's a nice sandy area to park yourself in the sun.
