I was on Curacao 2 years ago Did some
"shore Dives" from a dock at a resort called
Curacao Habitat... they rented me a tank I strapped it on walked to the end of the dock jumped in, swam out a few yards and had a wonderful peaceful dive! "ANYHOW" My question is......How many places on Boaire if any, can one find like that?

How high can you count?

There are at least 60-something named sites, practically all are shore access.

About a dozen or so have, as you described, a dock or pier to walk off of, mostly at resorts and small dive shops all within a few km of each other. Only a very few ask for a few dollars, and apparently only if you actually use their facilities.

Look at the divesite map - I believe you can find a link to it on www.infobonaire.com

Bonaire is considered the home of "diving freedom" precisely because of the quantity of shore diving available. Nothing else comes close.

Eugene,

There are about 10 dive shops on the waterfront where you can do what you describe. Most have pier entries, and some you just walk down into the water from shore. Then, as Leif says, dozen and dozens of other sites you can drive to once you rent whatever gear you need from a dive shop. Just make sure to bring a C-card, money/credit card, and a bathing suit (or a slice of pizza :-) ). Note that if this is your first time diving on Bonaire during the calendar year, you will also need to purchase a $10 Bonaire Marine Park dive tag, and do a check-out dive at the dive shop you get the tag at (Marine Park rules).

And of course, you can dive at the first Habitat resort "Captain Don's" right here on Bonaire. Divers have the own dock called Baby Doc. Based on my one dive at Habitat Curacao, I would say the reef starts closer to shore and shallower depth at Habitat Bonaire.

Please! Show some decency and wear at least 2 slices of pizza (front and back).

Eugene I haven’t forgotten that you wanted some pics of downtown Kralendijk and sorry I haven’t had time to scan them. I’ll try to get to it over the weekend.

P.S. Bonaire is the most shore dive-friendly place you will ever find. The opportunities are only limited to your length of time on the island.
