I just bought one, and I'm wondering if I wasted my money?

I get terribly seasick on boats, that's why I love Bonaire so much - great shore diving. But I still want to go to Klien and small wall .

The guy at the diveshop swears by his, but I was wondering if any BT'ers have experience with one?

Renee,
I did not use the wristbands on my trip to Bonaire for the two tank and single tank boat dives because we had calm seas BUT I have used them on a Windjammer Cruise and I swear by them. I have a serious inner ear problem and all I have to do is think about 'ocean motion' and I get sick. I asked a diveshop owner what I should do and he said that I should buy the wristbands and take Bonine (Buy it at WalMart - similar to Dramamine but without the sleepy/side effects). Many people think the wristbands are purely psychological, but for me they were the miracle drug. I had absolutely no issues for the entire week.
Good Luck.

Jim

If you are referring to the relief band that sends the 'pulse' through your hand, my husband uses it although not in Bonaire. He uses it in offshore diving we do off the coast of NC. He also uses the scopalamine patch and Bonine. The relief band helps in the fact that if he does get sick, he doesn't feel it coming on and he doesn't feel bad (like he's going to die!)....he just throws up and is fine. So, he thinks it helps him greatly!

He's VERY prone to seasickness. He has never used anything on any boat dives in Bonaire and never gotten sick.

Hope this helps!

so are these the inexpensive wrist bands sold at drug store or the more expensive models with electrical impulses ? are they waterproof ? I tried the piece of elastic with the little white marble and they did'nt work that great ..but have heard of better ones...I can't use the scapolomine patch anymore they have made me sick twice...and have gotten addicted to dramamine while using for too long a time while on a long cruise,,,,again reason I dive Bonaire...don't have to get in the boats..just the airplane to get there

The ones I was referring to are the kind that send electrical impulses. They are not waterproof....my husband takes it off right before he gets in the water and puts it back on right when he gets out of the water.

I was referring to the electrical one as well. I tried it on land, and I can feel the pulse, but I haven't had a chance to really put it through it's paces yet. Maybe I should have Steve (my husband) drive me around in traffic, that'll get me going too !

Thanks for the good advice, it sounds like it'll work. I'll let you all know when I get back.

Just 19 days to Bonarie - YAY!!!

David, you have done the Blackbeard cruises! Do you mean out of Florida? If yes, would you mind emailing me and telling me the pros and cons. My husband and I have been thinking about trying them out. Thanks Denise

Renee,,,I have one but have never used it..as I usually do all shore dives in Bonaire...I get seasick terrible....We are going to the bahamas soon and will check it out there....so...your husband does not feel sick? but he just vomits? that must be weird...does he at least feel the sensation of "I'm about to feed the fish" coming on? and does the band work as soon as he puts it back on once exiting the water?

I have been told to use ginger pills. You can get them in any health food store. I can't vouch for them, but I heard it works for some people. Rio

Used the non cheap non-electrical ones on a Disney cruise and never had a problem. I'll try them next weekend on a 4 dive Florida gulf stream trip and will let you know.

I can vouch for ginger pills. They were first given to me in Hawaii, on one of those dinner-cruises, when the sea became rough, and I became green. It worked that night, so I bought some for use on other trips. I think I got mine at Target, in their vitamin section.

I take two before I get on a plane or boat, and have not been queasy since!

I get sea sick very easily and also have vertigo problems and I wear the bands that Diver Debbi mentioned. That little white ball hits a pressure point if placed correctly on the wrist and I find that they work very well for me. I wear them in and out of the water and on the plane too! I cannot take any medication as even the non-drousy ones knock me out. I think those ginger pills is something I should try. Are they all the same or is there something specific I should know before purchasing them?

Hey Darlene...looks like we have alot of " common ground" when it comes to being seasick...any ginger product will do that is why ginger ale..ginger snap cookies..candied ginger anything like that will work, but I get ginger pills at the herbal section of any drug store..those work too..gonna "borrow" some of the expensive bands from a friend and take a wild ride on Route 9 and see if that works..hey..great tattoo..your one brave woman! me whimp..use transfers hee hee !
