We are going to be heading down to Bonaire in a week and I
am wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of
any batfish, or where they are most likely to be.
I figure Yellow Sub and something special
thanks
matt

i've never heard of anyone spotting batfish there...not to say they aren't there it's just that i haven't seen one and haven't heard of anyone else saying they saw one.

The REEF database contains three batfish sightings, and one was in fact at Something Special.

I found some in St. Vincent before, but they
are so cool so I'm always on the lookout for them.

They aren't generally on a reef slope that is most of the diving on Bonaire. Spend time in flat places, like coming in from your dive. Keep your head in the water until you run into the shore, and you'll see a lot more, and maybe a Batfish.

I have only seen one batfish in Bonaire. It was at Bari Reef. A Redlipped Batfish. A most unusual siting, I am told. That was several years ago.

I'll verify that spotting at Bari Reef. I took several pictures of the little guy. I believe it was back in October 2005. Only one of these I have ever seen In Bonaire.

On a night dive two years ago at the Town pier our dive guide found 2 for them. But it's a moot point now, can't dive that pier anymore.

Regardless, you'll have a great trip I'm sure.

ironically, the latest issue of scuba diving magazine has an article about bonaire diving and lists town pier as one of the "must-do" dives.

it also has information on batfish.
