Three years ago my wife and I visited Bonaire for our honeymoon and are still talking about it. Everyone on this site helped me so much. Thank You!! We are planning another trip this Oct. and have read about Omar doing some damage. This trip is going to include my mother who is not a diver but loves to snorkel. What sites would you suggest for a good dive but also a site for shallow areas without damage?

The most interesting thing I noticed about the effects of Omar was.......seeing the natural re-generation of the reefs, and fish. There seemed to be alot more angels, and various coral munching varieties of parrot fish etc. Tons of spawning action, juvies, and filter feeders out and about. Not so many eels as usual, but I believe this was due to a virus, not Omar. We were there last Apr (6th trip),and returning again this Nov. Don't snorkel, but there're always lotsa snorklers day and night out at Buddys, a great dive too. Nice docks and beach bar/restaurant,(you can and sit and order or not), big resident iguanas out and about, nice Klein and ocean view, in case your mum is done before you! Have fun!

Doug,
We were diving there this March, and last November and noticed that the shallows are almost empty of coral, at least the colorful type that used to line sites like Andrea 1 and Tori's reef. But, your mother will love the snorkeling at any site because despite the reef being almost gone, the fish are out in abundance along the shore at almost every site we dove. We saw some of the most interesting fish finds while diving into shore in the shallows. She might even see an eagle ray as we have seen those in the shallows at Margate Bay and The Lake.
