This may be a question for the Community thread, but let me start here.

I am thinking of leaving my laptop at home during our upcoming trip to Bonaire. The only thing I could use it while in Bonaire would be to download data from our dive computers. But if there is any dive shop who could allow us to interface our dive computers with a desktop and download our data, then we could travel laptop-free for once.

So my question is: do you know of any dive shop or any business that provides the service of downloading data from dive computers and saving them on a CDROM or even emailing them to the customer? My wife and I are using the Atom 2, and we could bring the PC cable with us, if needed.

I am mostly interested in backing up the data before our return trip. The Atom 2 is capable of holding data for up to 24 dives and this is more than we'll be doing in our 7 day trip.

Does your dive computer need specific software to do a download?
If not, try an email to the local internet/computer guru at http://www.chatnbrowse.com/
Even if so, bringing the needed software disk is easier than hauling a laptop.

Leo.. I'm not familiar with the Atom dive computer. So is it not possible to download the data to a jump drive? Perhaps buying a small USB port for the Atom to plug in & then transferring to the jump drive which plugs into the port?
I'm not a geek but it's just an idea that I'd explore.!

Leo, please don't laugh at Vince, he already said he was not a geek.

I'm with Grunt; bring the software...maybe transferred to Vince's jump drive!

Mel, why would I laugh at Vince when I can send a letter to his boss (the NI in VINIBU) complaining about his lack of geekiness? :-)

The Atom2 requires its own software installed on a computer to download the data. Otherwise Vince's idea would have worked. I am doing this with my camera already: off the memory into the iPod via a USB cord. But it will be a while before diving computer manufacturers abandon proprietary protocols and formats.

As Grunt suggests (thanks), I'll contact Michael and see if he can help.
