Is diving the wild side worth heading over there or paying for a boat dive?

Most of what I have read says to stay away from shore diving it by your self. Do people dive it by them self?

Thanks

i wouldn't recommend diving the east side without a guide. we dove with bas noij last month (shore dive at cai) and loved it. maybe after you've done a few dives in the same location with a guide you might decide that you can do it on your own but i wouldn't recommend it for first time visitors.

i haven't heard much about the boat dive operation there now. larry sold it and i don't know much about the new owners.

The wild side diving is fantastic and decidely different than the leeward side.

Definitely do it (shore dive) with a guide at first. The boat diving option is really a great experience.

You really must give it a try.

The "wild" side dive op is now called "Bonaire East Coast Diving." www.bonaireeastcoastdiving.com is their site.

A bit different sloping wall. Bigger animals. More turtles. More likely to see more rys, sharks. The White Hole has tons of tarpons. That is what I have seen.

During solid wind reversals (or cessations) - not common but most often occur in the Fall - THAT's the time to shore dive the "wild side" from Willemstoren Light around to anywhere you can get in the water. Two years ago we were blessed by a glassy calm "wildside" - what a joy. We swam right in the shallows of the Lac Bay barrier reef - full of very large and not-shy Rainbow Parrots and all kinds of critters normally not seen. Good luck getting a true wind reversal.
