with reading about petit thefts I was wondering if tanks are stolen from the back of trucks while your diving. I am renting from AB rental is thier a locking system for the tanks?

thanks

Jason..Welcome to BT..To my knowledge, really no need to worry about that. All the dive tanks are marked by the respective dive ops.

Jason, welcome to BT:-) In the past there have been a few reports of tanks being taken from the back of trucks. It hasn't been reported in quite a while, some of the ops will ask you only take enough tanks for the dives you are doing that day. Ten trips, never a problem for me. I usually stock up with what I want in the morning (3 or 4).

Vince, uh...shouldn't you be diving or something? what are you doing on your computer???? LOL!

our truck was gone through last tuesday night after the karnaval parade...i think about 2AM (at least that's when the dogs were barking). our glove box was dumped and the ashtray was opened but nothing was taken...there was nothing in it anyway except a first aid kit and save a dive kit and our insurance papers. they were just looking for money i guess. we had our four tanks in the bed of the truck as well as a tee shirt and a towel inside...none of that was touched so i wouldn't worry about tanks. we leave ours in the truck all the time.

surprisingly, the police wanted us to make a report even though nothing was missing. they are starting to take petty theft a lot more seriously here.

Yellow Sub asked us not to take extra tanks if going north, but the south was OK.

Although theft is a real (although rare) concern I have never had my truck searched or anything stolen. I have always felt tanks were safe between dives. I never left them in the truck over night however.
