I saw someone's trip report here on BT, and a small piece in there was about their rental of underwater scooters.

I would only guess that Buddy's or Habitat would have them, but any idea on what they rent for and thoughts on using them? We don't NEED them.. just after reading the trip report here, thought it sounded like a new thing to try.

Do they just hand you keys and let you loose or do they give instructions and limits on depth or whatnot? I've never even seen one up close, so I don't know how deep they will or will not go, etc.

Thoughts??

Scooters are a trip - I've had a chance to use them several times, but not on Bonaire - some can go a couple of knots so its easy to change depth quickly - so I would think a quick course on how to operate would be a good idea -

Karen, I've used them on Bon, but they belonged to a friend. The biggest issue is making sure you don't descend or ascend too quickly. It was a kick to hit three wrecks on one dive.

I THINK Walt Stark rents them, or he may know who does.

I did a search on "Search Bonaire" for Walt Stark and found Rec Tech.. went to their website and I don't see any scooter info, but the stuff is all in technical abbreviations that I dont recognize a LOT of what they do offer!! HAH!

Karen, Walt is the tech diver guru, and has used them on Bonaire. Email him and ask if he rents them.
