I noticed on google earth that there is a scruffy looking road/path going arround lac bay.
Is this useable (instead of a 20 min wade)to get to the far side reef? thanks, ron

the road to cai is off kaminda sorobon (the continuation of nikiboko zuid once you are in the kunuku) it's a dirty road that goes past the kayak center. do you think that's the one you mean?

Pat i don't know exactly what road i'm looking at from the space shot on google but.....most people tell you the Lac Bay dive/snorkel is great but you must wade for 15 to 20 minutes from the sail board shop area to get to it. As i look on the sat. picture it looks as there may be a thin scrubby road that can be driven to the far side of Lac Bay?? anyone ever try?? maybe someone onisland could find out? thanks, ron

Ronald you might be talking about two different places; One is where they windsurf, and that's a long walk out to the reef but worth it (or so I've heard, never done it myself, too lazy). The other is Lac Cai, which is "wild side" diving. I suppose you could snorkel there but you'd want to be extremely careful. The road getting there is long, windy, and pitted, and it seems like you will never get there ! But then you see the piles of conch shells and it's all good. :-)

When looking at a map of Bonaire, is Lac Cai on the northern end or southern end?

I would definitely take the road although it is as described by Kelly. Snorkelling can be difficult with the windsurfers. We often walk out from Sorobon to snorkel near the opening but always have to be alert for windsurfers.

kevin, cai is on the north side of lac bay....sorobon is on the south side.

and i just reread my first post...i meant to say dirt road, not dirty road...but what's the difference i guess? and kelly's right, it's a long bumpy ride. kinda like being in the park and leaving slagbaai and you see a sign that says "exit 7KM"....longest 7km on the planet.
