Hey! We're at Buddy's (Finally! More on that later, when I do my dive report once back home.)
My son lost his brand-new Reef-Net macro lens/magnifier with a white plastic defuser. It's about 5" x 5" at South Bay, Klein Bonaire, this morning.

We think it's within a few hundred feet of the boat, about 30', near s bunch of gorgonians. At the time they were upcurrent of the mooring (is that west?)

I know there isn't much hope of recovery, but I thought I'd put out a special request to all Bonairetalkers and divers and hopefully get the word out for anyone going to South Bay to keep an eye out for it.

We're staying at Buddy's (name is Sonnenmark) until January 4th.

Until then, I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get really, really lucky. It was was his birthday present, his first time using it, and he was so darn excited and looking forward to some great macro shots.

Otherwise, Bonaire is wonderful!

Hmmm...one week later and still nothing...

We've tried to get the Buddy's boats to revisit South Bay three times, with no luck; each time we end up at some other site on Klein Bonaire. I guess my hope to find it are laughable. Still, a guy lost his computer on a night dive at Bari last year, and found it the next morning. I guess it would have been better to have lost the lens on a shore dive site, then we could have looked for it ourselves as many times as we liked. Of course, far better not to have lost it at all!

Sorrows, try diving with another dive shop that will go to South Bay. :-) Good Luck.

Hi, how about renting a boat at the Marina so you can go and look all you want? It's easy. I just returned from a trip where I lost my watch between a boat and the shore, went back, swam out and back, and found it. A real lucky pleasure. At the very least you'll have a pleasant ride and know you tried.

Sorrows, Good News...my husband found your son's lens today. Bad news...I called Buddy Dive twice today and both times was told there is no Sonnenmark staying there. Send me a PM and we'll get your lens back to you.

I think they are coming back to Virginia tomorrow or Sunday. If you don't connect with them I'll be back in Bonaire Mar 7-14 and and can pick it up and hand it to them. No reason to fuss with shipping or anything.

You could have knocked us over with the proverbial feather when the GM at Caribbean Club told us this morning that some good samaritan had found the camera lens! Amazing news! Aren't people wonderful? Particularly Bonaire diving people?

Thanks to you, too, Mel and to everyone who tried to help! We feel truly blessed!

Ellen, I've sent you a personal message and I will continue to call you throughout the day! Thanks to you and your husband again and again!
