Back in 1997 and 1998 I dove on Bonaire and both years I made a trip up to the northern sites in the national park. Playa Funchi and Boca Slagbaai were two of the best sites with the most pristine reefs on the island. In 1999 Lenny damaged the reefs and ever since then I have not returned to the park on the recommendations of dive masters on the island.

Mike, I just talked today from someone from STINAPA who is familiar with the state of the park, and she said the roads are terrible--big ruts, even little streams running across the roads that are impassable. With all the rains lately, which will probably continue into next week, there probably won't be much improvement.

Thanks, Pauline. Maybe I will wait another year before I try the park again.

For those looking to go to the park, as of Saturday the short road was open.
