Bon Nochi.
I will be traveling to bonaire Saturday and extremely excited. This is my first trip to the island. I am avid snorkeler and outdoorsmen from Florida and wanted to do some fishing while I was there. I dont dive but will be there with a large group of divers. Anyone know if this is a good time of year to fish, expected catches, and recommended captains. I would like to do some deep sea fishing, but just not sure if its the right time. Didnt know where to post this so I thought this would be a good place. Thanks again.

Kerry

Bon Dia Kerry & welcome to BT!
You may want to check out Capt Chris at the below link for some additional info. We were out with him about 2 years ago. unfortunately didn't land any big ones but did catch some tuna & barracuda.
I'm sure you'll have fun!

Thanks Vince. I've been reading many posts here the last few months and this is an awesome resource for Bonaire. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

We did a half day charter with Capt Chris and I am not sure that I would recommend him. He was a nice guy and all, but I am not sure that he knows what he is doing out there. He was happy to tell us that he averages about 300 marlin a year, but they were nowhere to be seen. He even told us that he has some caribbean record for catching billfish.

When we were fishing he made a very sharp turnaround and all of the lines got tangled (we were trolling). Then he proceeded to scold his mate and blamed it on him. It was not the mates fault that he turned too hard. It is common knowledge not to turn like he did and it ended up costing us well over an hour to get things untangled. I have also yet to hear of anyone catching anything with him...but maybe I just missed it. I dunno, I just don't think it is worth it.
