So i found an old post from 2004 doing a search, which only further complicated my question : do i need to bring my small tank rack (holds 3 tanks) for the back of the p/u, ?
And then the question is , will the resort let me have more than one tank per person, at a time?
we are staying at caribbean club..
thanks! Cory

Cory, I've not seen a diving pick up without a tank rack in the back bed. Where I stay it is unlimited(tanks), you might want to email your resort... Ron

Cory, Caribbean Club has always been great about the number of tanks you take. the thing to remember is not to take more tanks than you are going to use and also, consider stopping back during the day, around lunch to drop off tanks and pick up fresh ones. It is always great to think of the other divers too. We tried to make a special trip back around lunch to drop off empties. Also,if it is still the same policy, you will have access to Buddy's drive through tank fill. I loved Caribbean Club!! Quiet and peaceful

thank you, it must have been the OLD policy to limit the # of tanks , that would be crazy having to drive back from every dive to get new tanks, especially these days with the gas prices

Cory,

We've always loaded up 2-3 tanks each into the bed of the truck and the gear pretty much holds everything in place. If we're diving somewhat close to the resort/dive shop we would only grab 2 each and swap out at lunch. On the occasions when we headed up to the north end we would grab 3 each. That was with both Captain Don's (in 2000) and Photo Tours (in 2003).

Have a great time!!! My jealousy is being strictly held in check. :-)

Michael

There was a sign at Yellow Submarine that you could only have 3 tanks per person a day even though they sign you up for "unlimited" diving.
Also, they tell you that you can only take two tanks, at a time, per person in your truck if you are diving south and one tank pp if you are diving northern sites. If you take more and any get stolen they charge you for the tank. Lots of people ignore this, I know. I am just reporting what I was told by the dive staff.

At Yellow Submarine unlimited is unlimited so Constance must have misunderstood the dive staff.
Indeed divers a requested to take only one tank per person while diving north, because many tanks have been stolen from pick ups in this area while divers are in the water. Dive Friends have four locations where tanks can be picked up.

Before you go gorilla diving... been there, done that, we have the t-shirt; you might want to check your vehicle rental contract under the sub-heading of tires, overinflation of... they finally got wise to how we carried enough tanks AND gear for 4 divers plus a cooler full of iced (thanks Scott) Amstel.

Sorry not to have checked back here sooner. Jan, if you could clarify for me. We picked up our tanks from the Port Bonaire shop. At the testing station in the tank shed there was a sign saying 3 tanks per person per day and then...store policy, I think it was. As tanks were running low during one week we were there I can see that you shouldn't take 10 at once.
There are plenty of things I misunderstand and this might be another. The three tank limit, at least that was what we thought, wasn't as much of a pain as only being able to take one tank up north to dive Karpata. Once you commit to the one way road you would like to make two dives.
We like diving with your organization and will on our next trip!! but that sign seemed real clear.

Oh and Jan,I meant to add that the young woman who works in your Port Bonaire shop is always very kind and helpful. I was glad to see she was still there from the year before and she made every visit in the shop a pleasure. She is a keeper!

Constance, sorry for my late reply but I was off island for a while. Today I checked with the GM of the diveshop and he confirmed that unlimited air = unlimited air. The sign you have noticed was about Nitrox but Gerrie assured me that this is only during very busy days when they run short of Nitrox tanks.
