Check this out.

Space Bag

That tiny bag next to my lovely bored puppy represents two full 3mm suits, a 3mm shorty and 2 pair of booties. That's a space bag (2 for $7 at WalMart) that you suck the air out with a vacuum cleaner. Amazing space saver.

That's great Cecil, unless the inspector wants to open the bag... ;-)

Cecil, please don't space bag the puppy, OK? That would hurt....woof. cb

One question. How do you get it home after opening.

Marge, Sue asked the same question and to keep a PG rating I will not repeat that response. The G rating answer is squeeze the air out. We are also leaving mid-afternoon so I might be able to get some suckage that morning from the house keeping staff.

The other advantage is the stuff can be wet coming home.

Ohhh, to be a fly on the wall when an inspector does open it. Can you imagine? LOL

It would be like two adults and two kids growing right in front of him when it expanded.

Awww, Cecil...better hope he doesn't carry a gun - holes in your stow-away family. Bummer.

I agree with Carole, but what about your dive buddy. Bet they wouldn't mind the inconvenience for a free ride to Bonaire. :-)

But, I do like your idea. It's great. Good luck with it.

This thread is too funny.

Cecil, we do that too with taking stuff down to Bonaire.

Marge, Gregg has been known to sit on those bags to scrunch it down going back. LOL! :-)

Cecil, I've thought about that too, but never thought about how to get it home either...lol...

Question: Will it compress the neoprene so that the 3mms are now 1mms?

just kidding folks

I know what you mean. I just pray the zippers will hold. Can you just see it bursting on the conveyor and all that stuff spewing out.

Last year one of our new travelers talked of bringing her own favorite pillow in a space bag.... but even then, my thought was how do you fit it in to bring it home.....?

I'd even bring one of those egg crate layers for the mattress if I could "squish" it in! The mattresses are so hard in Bonaire!

The beds in Bonaire are like sleeping on concrete. I wish I had the room to pack an egg crate!

Well if we were sure of suckage on Bonaire you could bring your egg crate. Maybe this could be a new service Michael could offer. Free suckage with any purchase.

Ok so I have to jump in here, anyone ever ask at housekeeping unit if you could use their vacuum to "reseal" the bag?

The funny thing is my husband and I were just talking about this very thing last night after watching a commercial on tv for the space bags.

I wonder how much of an issue it would be to use their vacuums?
Just a thought.

I guess that would be a no then... I haven't been there yet. So much for my good idea. Can't wait to see in person what they use, make sense water and sand so no carpet.
Ok so never mind, it sounded good though don't you think?

I am staying at Capt Don's in July. This will be my first trip and I am really looking forward to it, even if I am not a diver...
I am going to take a resort course there and see how I like it, I do like to snorkel. Something tells me I am going to have a great time no matter if I dive or not.

Freddie do you like Capt Don's?

if you stay upstairs, please be careful of the slippery stairs and floors.. tiles are very slippery when wet

I don't think I've seen a vaccum on bon either. Even the houses I've house sat, all tile.

maybe Michael could have a deal "free suckage with purchase of internet time" lol...

Thanks for the heads up Freddie, I am staying in the ocean view building. I have been reading this board (way too much...) and have read the floors get really slick. I will have to make sure I watch out for them. I am traveling with my daughter, who is a diver, and meeting up with a group of her friends. Something tells me (yes it is her) that I will be hanging by myself for a lot of the week. I have no worries that I will get bored, I plan on hitting the ground and moving, not running since I have learned there is such a thing as island time...
I figure by July I will have the entire trip planned, or at least a lists of must do's and must see's.
This board is awesome..

Boat chick I think that is a wonderful idea!

I agree with Michael suppling the "s" but there should be a charge...he would have to purchase a vacuum. But it would bring more business into his already PACKED :-) store.
I was thinking about using those bags for our BC's? We got new ones a year ago and they are light but bulky! Do you think it would work on them?

Can't think of reason why they would not work.

I got a pack of those travel space bags - 4 for $11 at Wal-Mart.... you just zip them up and roll them up towards a one-way seal at the end, and poof, most of the air is gone.

Not as good as the vacuum one, obviously, but should be fine for clothes, the wet suit (if I decide to bring it), and just for storing anything that might still be damp before the flight home.

It's funny, the other day I started putting things in my suitcases, to make sure I had enough room, and I realized that with all the gear I'm taking, clothes seem to be an afterthought, tucked in around my scuba stuff. :-) Hopefully there's no turista fashion police on the island. :-)

45 days!! Wooo!!!!!!

It reminds me of an old joke of someone who ask the hair dresser for a wash, a cut and a blow job. The Hair dressers which he wants first and the gentleman asked why and she said well it depends how I need to position the chair. Hah.

Robin we are at Don's now our 15th stay here in 10 years. We prefer the Junior suites - upstairs but take care on the stairs if wet. They do have a gripper strip.

By the way Petries Pillar rocked today. Two Green Turtles, one Hawksbill, two mating squid atlantic trigger fish, two sea horses and lots of angel fish. Our first boat trip this trip.

By the way the water is a steady 79F and chilly with a 3mm full the last three days.
