Woohoooooo! We're going to Bonaire Mar. 15-23! Last time we went (June 2007), we stayed at Divi, had a fabulous time--rented the air tanks from there etc. This time we are staying someplace else that is not a dive resort. I've lined up the truck, and now I need to line up a place to get air tanks. Where is a convenient and cheap place to get air? Also, we'll need to be checked out again. Last time, of course, it was right there at Divi and we were in the water about three hours after landing at the airport! Can we go to a dive resort to get our check out dive again, or is that considered bad manners to get checked out somewhere where you are not staying? Will stay tuned to the forum to check out the latest and greatest on Bonaire! Jane

You do the checkout dive with the dive operation where you get your tanks and marine park tag. There is plenty of good dive operations around. Mainly depends on where you stay and maybe on whether or not you want to use Nitrox (some operations offer free upgrade to Nitrox).

no, not bad manners, not all accomodations have onsite diveshops. Yellowsub or Dive Inn would be two good choices...

My family has used Yellow Submarine for our 4 visits. Their main shop is downtown on the main strip on the coast.

Their checkout dive just consists of you gearing up and walking across the street (into the ocean) to do your initial dive, making sure that your weights/buoyancy are good (so you won't hurt the reef).

They do not accompany you if you've got a dive buddy.

They're very convenient as they have three different sites where you can get/drop off tanks.

We love them.

Cliff

I've got a group of five going in seven weeks, and we plan to use Yellow Sub- it's a kick to watch checkout dives on the webcam....
