I finally got my Bonaire Diving Made Easy, second edition book. I was just wondering on the sites that are for advance to intermediate dives like the Lighthouse Reef, that sounds great! My qestion is will the dive shops (boats)take you to these dive sites?

Ida,
Most dive shops have a "request book" that allow you to select the dive site you'd like to visit...usually need to sign up a couple of days in advance. Also, the specific dive sites selected that day can be a function of winds and current...and perhaps another dive boat already on the mooring.

Not all the shore dives have moorings for boats...Lighthouse used to have a mooring...but last time down I think it was gone...someone on Bonaire right now can let you know...or certainly your dive shop will know.

I'd really recommend trying to "save" your boat dives for areas where it is not possible to shore dive (Klien Bonaire and some of the North dive sites like Rappel).

You certainly have done a great job researching your trip and I can't wait to read your trip report!

Scott

Lighthouse Beach resort??
There's a dive mooring there.
Willemstoren Lighthouse?
No dive mooring, shore only.

Willemstoren Lighthouse.
The book says heavy waves usually make this a bad location for entry and exit. The dive should only be attempted when the winds are calm and there are only very small waves. The walk throught the surf can be tricky. etcetera. But the dive itself sounds beautiful. There are several in the book, that they say are more for advance so I was hoping the boats could take us out to them. I e-mailed Divi and he said they take you to both, they have a wish list you can put the dive sites you want to go to. We have two boat dives a day but I was wanted to do these in the morning and do the shore dives in the afternoon and evening if I get the nerve up for a night dive.

Bas,
I told Tim that sometimes you will take Bonaire Talkers out for a personal dive? If so maybe you can take us out if the weather and currents are okay. We could take you out to eat and a drink or two?
Ida

Hi Ida,
Who's Tim?
The book is right about the waves. Allthough if I wait for the perfect conditions as descibed I would not be able to dive over there much and also I'd pick a more interesting site north of the lighthouse. Lighthouse is nice but it can get heaps better :-)
Usually early in the morning conditions are best if the wind's been down that night. September, October and November are the best months with light winds and even wind reversals. However if you're lucky conditions can be good also at other times.
Yes, I'll take BT-ers and other people out for a personal dive however this is without compensation and only for fun. Some dive shops offer guided east coast dives but it's limited to only a few sites. Also I might wanna try you out on an easy dive(however a different and very interesting one) to see what I can do with you. Just let me know and we'll go see what's possible.

Tim is my husband. Kenny, also will be joining us he decided at the last minute to join in on the fun. Tim, has been reading the BT'ers, but has not put in his two bits in. We will be on vacation August 7th-14th would love to have you show us some interesting sites, Tim & Kenny are more expericed divers than I am. Still a little scared but I'm getting there. I was the one that picked Bonaire, I feel I made a good choice. Let me know if we can contact you and how.

There was a small celebration tonight here on Bonaire to kick off the second edition of Jessie's book, so it's now officially available and being sold as I understand it.

We have a place at Lighthouse Beach Resort and dive Lighthouse everytime we go. It is an excellent dive and we have seen quite a few rays in the shallows. The only thing that you have to be careful of is the current. It is pretty strong and you can overshoot your entry point if you are not careful. It is an excellent dive though! Good luck!
