We ae a family of snorkelers, none of us dive. Any reccomendations, as it is our first trip to Bonaire. We have our own equipment, and kids are with us. Do we all need those booties? easy but safe places for kids to snorkel? They're dieing to see turtles & rays, any extremely good places where our chances might be better for a sighting?
Any other info would be geatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Nancy

Where are you staying? the reef starts right infront of you at most hotels and is easy to access from the piers or small beaches. There is hardly any current and there are lots of fish around.Warm clear water. Try Renne's snorkel tour on the Woodwind, over to Klien, she has many fish friends she'll introduce you to.Fun! her night snorkel is pretty cool too!

Hi, we are two divers with two young and very keen snorklers, who want to snorkle with after our morning dives, so is any shore dive site good for children.
thanks

alan

You definitely want booties. Some great places would be VERY hard to get into over the broken up coral beach.

Lorraine Meadows,
Could you please tell me who Renne (or is it Renee?) is, and where we can find her? I found her name mentioned many times on this newsboard.

I will answer for Lorraine since she is here on Bonaire (thanks to her I have an updare NY Times!) Rene is the lady who owns WoodWinds, a siling yacht that takes folks snorkeling. She has a web site at www.bonairenet.com under activities.

I took my family of five, including my mother-in-law, to Bonaire in July, 2001.
We were lucky enough to get hooked up with Caren Eckrich, a marine biologist from Texas A&M. Caren is the owner of Sea & Discover, also known as Rent a Marine Biologist.
Caren took my son (12)out three mornings to snorkel at various sites around Bonaire. By the
third morning, my daugher (15) was eager to go,
too. Caren is exceptionally good with kids and made the snorkeling trips educational, along with being fun. She has a good repoire with kids.
Caren also guided the whole family on a night snorkel. Whatever reservations we had about snorkeling at night were quickly forgotten. Caren
led us on a spectacular tour of the reef at night.
Caren is a great guide for snorkeling (or diving!) around Bonaire. However, if you have kids, they will truly enjoy their visit more if
Caren spends a few mornings with them.
Dunc MacKenzie
